Southwest Church is an Evangelical Free Church and came from humble beginnings combined with a bold vision. In 1973, a group of eight people started a small church called Desert Evangelical Church with their purpose being “to establish and maintain an evangelical Christian Church and to provide a place of public worship.” Decades and a few church names later, that same pursuit ignites the people of Southwest. Today, Southwest offers dozens of ministries, with thousands of residents in attendance each week, in the relentless pursuit of the vision that ‘every resident of the Valley will be a Jesus-follower.’

Southwest is located in the heart of the Coachella Valley, which is populated by nearly 600,000 people with another 3.5 million in annual tourists. Sitting on 45 acres that shares a property line with the world-famous Indian Wells Tennis Gardens, on one of the ten busiest intersections of the Valley, Southwest Church is easy to access and uniquely positioned.

“That little joker ain’t going pro.” 😂 (Pastor Ricky said it, not us.)

But seriously, parents: the weekends we give to travel ball are teaching our kids what matters most. If church is always the thing that gets skipped, we’re showing them it’s optional.

Community on the sideline is great. It’s just not the same as community in the pews. ⛪️

Not here to shame anyone. Just a loving nudge to ask: what are we actually building in our kids? 👀

Remember when families actually sat down and ate together? 👀

Science says it’s one of the best things you can do for your kids. And no, it doesn’t have to be a home-cooked meal. Takeout counts. Frozen pizza counts. Just sit down and put the phones away. 😅

Then build a few rhythms around it:
📖 Story time
🙏 Family prayer night
✝️ Bible reading
🎲 Game night (the board game with the plastic pieces)

They’ll complain for 20 minutes, then beg for it every night. 😂

It’s not “bad.” It’s just not bringing your life together. The apps are designed by brilliant people who know exactly how to hijack your brain, and a lot of them restrict their own kids from using what they built.

Gollum didn’t get lost overnight. He got lost one “just a little longer” at a time. And he stayed stuck because he stayed alone.
