Last weekend we had a small reunion for all of those who have participated in St. Joseph Mission Trips under the leadership of Linda Pohuski and Ester Wissel. There were 17 trips consisting of youth, young adults and older adults, with 78 total participants from 2006-2019. 2026 is the 20th Anniversary of the first mission trip. In 2005 after Hurricane Katrina came ashore, Linda who was the Youth Minister at the time, decided to take a handful of youth to Bayou LaBatre, Alabama to work cleaning up the area during their spring break of 2006. Mission trips continued until 2019.

Today is May 1 and the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. St. Joseph was a carpenter and laborer who provided for and protected the child Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was the earthly father of Jesus and head of the Holy Family. We know that he trusted and obeyed God without fail. He is a Patron Saint of fathers and guardians and is the Protector of the Universal Church.

The Feast of St. Joseph the Worker was instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1956. In 1959, Pope John XXIII (now Pope St. John XXIII) placed all workers under the patronage of St. Joseph the Worker.

"O Glorious St. Joseph, model of all who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in the spirit of penance in expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously by placing love of duty above my inclinations; to gratefully and joyously deem it an honor to employ and to develop by labor the gifts I have received from God, to work methodically, peacefully, and in moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from it through weariness or difficulty to work; above all, with purity of intention and unselfishness, having unceasingly before my eyes death and the account I have to render of time lost, talents unused, good not done, and vain complacency in success, so baneful to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary, all to imitate thee, O Patriarch St. Joseph! This shall be my motto for life and eternity. Amen." -Prayer to St. Joseph by Pope Pius X
