Corpus Christi Prayer —

O Precious Jesus, the gift of Your Body and Blood, shared with us, is unfathomable. Like manna that satiated our hunger, fill us where we lack. Like the bread given to Elijah in the desert, sustain us. Grace us with a glimpse into Your love for us, now and forever, present in the Eucharist. Amen.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make our First Family of Parish Picnic such a wonderful success. We had a great turnout of parishioners from our five churches.

We are grateful to the Knights of Columbus, the Respect Life Ministry, the Vandalia Police and Fire Departments, all the wonderful volunteers, St. Christopher Church Choir, our parish staff, and all who attended.

Thank you for sharing in the celebration of Mass, enjoying lunch and dinner together, participating in games, exploring the fire truck, making balloon animals and more, and, of course, enjoying the cookies and treats… thanks to St. John the Baptist parishioners.

Most importantly, thank you for bringing your families and helping create a joyful day of faith, fellowship, and community. We are blessed by the generosity, dedication, and spirit of our family of parishes.

Thank you for making this special event a memorable one for everyone involved. We look forward to gathering together again soon at our next event… the Fall Fest at St. Peter Church on September 18 and 19!

Steward Saint: St. Norbert (1080 - 1134)
Feast Day: June 6
Born of a noble family, St. Norbert lived a life of wealth and privilege until a near-death experience during a thunderstorm led to his conversion. He was ordained a priest in 1115, and retired to the Premontré valley in northern France where he founded a religious order (the Premonstatensians). Later made
an archbishop, he enlisted the aid of his brothers in the Order to help reform the Church.
The summary of the US bishops’ pastoral on stewardship says “Christian disciples experience conversion - life-shaping changes of mind and heart - and commit their very selves to
the Lord.” That’s the foundational definition of good stewards and a pretty accurate description of St. Norbert, too.

Steward Saint: St. Boniface
Feast Day: June 5
Born in England, but widely revered as the apostle to the
Germans. After his first missionary journey to Germany in 719, he reported to the Pope that many Christian communities there had lapsed back into paganism. He re-evangelized and reformed the German Church, as well establishing many Benedictine monasteries throughout the region. A bishop, then an archbishop, St. Boniface and fifty-three companions were eventually martyred in Frisia as he prepared to confirm a group of converts. St. Boniface, pray for us, that we, too, may be loyal to our faith and good stewards of our Christian heritage.

This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi. May this beautiful feast draw us deeper into our love for Christ, who is truly present in the Eucharist.

All are invited to the Corpus Christi Procession starting with the 9:00am Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church followed by a procession at 10:15am and Benediction at 10:45am. A reception will follow in Shumaker Hall.

See you at Mass!

Steward Saints: Charles Lwanga and Companions
Feast Day: June 3
In 1886, St. Charles Lwanga and his companions were tortured and put to death because they would not yield to the immoral demands of their king.
Charles was one of twenty-two Ugandan martyrs, aged thirteen to thirty, most of whom served as pages in the king’s court. It is said that “the blood of martyrs is the seed of Christians,” and in the year after their martyrdom, the number of catechumens in Uganda increased from 800 to 3,000. Good stewards of the faith, may the example of St. Charles Lwanga and his companions keep us steadfast when those in authority in our workplace - or our society - make it hard to be a Christian.

Virtues, EXPLAINED!
We see perfect obedience shown by Christ amidst his agony in the garden. His human will dreads what will come, but his divine will, which is never at odds with his human will, submits to the Truth: “Yet, not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39)
