I just finished When God Became White by Grace Ji-Sun Kim and it was one of those books that helped me put into words things that have been rattling around in my head for a long time.

One of the things I’ve been wrestling with is how much of what we’ve come to accept as Christianity is actually Christianity shaped by white culture, white perspectives, and white power. And how often we’ve confused those things with the Gospel itself.

As a Korean American who has spent most of his life in American Christianity, there’s something both challenging and liberating about beginning to recognize that distinction.

I also learned about Minjung theology from this book. A bit embarrassed that I didn’t even know such a theology existed. But I’m eager to learn more.

Also. It’s just great and awesome to see Korean-Americans challenge white-centered Christianity instead of cozying up to it and promoting it.
