A message from Bishop Michael T. T. Castori, S.J.:

Aloha from Assisi! I am in Rome for a formation course for new bishops, and yesterday we made a pilgrimage together to Assisi to celebrate Mass at the Basilica to mark the 800th Anniversary of the death of St. Francis. Such a powerful and inspiring experience to celebrate St. Francis with bishops of the Universal Church! I am praying through the intercession of Our Lady of Peace, St. Damien, St. Marianne, St. Francis, St. Clare and all the saints for abundant blessings on our wonderful Diocese, and in a special way at this time for the protection from the approaching storm of all our people. Lord, keep us safe!

Today, the Church commemorates the Passion of St. John the Baptist, the great forerunner of Christ who remained faithful to the truth even unto death.

Here in Hawaiʻi, we remember in a special way the communities placed under his patronage at St. John the Baptist Church in Kalihi and St. John the Baptist Mission in Kealakekua.

St. John the Baptist, faithful unto death, pray that we may boldly witness to Christ.

Today, the Church celebrates St. Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, whose restless search for truth ultimately led him to Christ.

May his witness remind us that our hearts find their true rest in God.

Here in Hawaiʻi, we honor St. Augustine in a particular way at St. Augustine-by-the-Sea Church in Waikīkī.

St. Augustine, pray for us!

The celebration brought together clergy and faithful from across Maui to welcome Bishop Castori and pray with him at the beginning of his episcopal ministry in Hawaiʻi.

Please continue to pray for Bishop Castori and for the people of our diocese as this island tour continues.

Today, the Church celebrates St. Pius X, Pope, remembered for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his desire that the faithful draw ever closer to Christ through frequent Holy Communion.

Here in Hawaiʻi, we honor his patronage in a particular way at St. Pius X Church in Mānoa.

May his example renew in us a deeper love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and a greater desire for holiness.

St. Pius X, lead us to Christ in the Eucharist. Pray for us!

Today we celebrate the anniversary of the dedication of the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace.

Dedicated on August 15, 1843, and observed each year on August 16, the Cathedral has stood in the heart of Honolulu for 183 years as a witness to the Catholic faith in Hawaiʻi.
As the seat of the Bishop of Honolulu and, since 2014, a Minor Basilica, the Cathedral holds a unique place in the life of our local Church.

Today, as the Cathedral undergoes a historic renewal, we give thanks for all those who have worshiped within its walls and pray that it may continue to serve generations of Catholics to come.

Our Lady of Peace, pray for us.
