ST. FRANCIS PARISH UPDATE - JUNE 8TH

On Friday, at both the 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses, the priests will be saying the Mass for the Consecration of the Sacred Heart to our Parish.

The schedule for our visit on June 23rd with Bishop Jacques will be as follows: Mass - 11:30 a.m. Reception & Listening Session - Family Center - 12:30 p.m. - Please use the RSVP below if you are planning on attending so that we can plan for refreshments. The Parish office has catechisms in English and Spanish for sale for $33.

Lastly, the letter below was written by one of our parishioners. It touched the hearts of our staff so very much that we asked her if we could please republish it. I know all of us have been in the spot where this young mom finds herself at times. I, too, can remember a time when my young daughter was acting out in Mass and left the pew only to find herself on the top step of the altar! If it was not for the kindness of another parishioner who coaxed her off the step, my daughter would have joined the priest on the altar! We all need to remember and put ourselves in the shoes of our young moms and dads and give them a kind smile or maybe just a kind word to let them know they will be okay.

“To my fellow parishioners of St. Francis By the Sea Parish/Hilton Head Island:

Probably like many of you, my wife and I were a bit surprised when we first learned of the Parish’s announcement of a fund-raising campaign to construct/install a “Pipe Organ” in the Church sanctuary. We knew little about such musical instruments, other than they were often seen in cathedrals and other “majestic” churches throughout the world. After hearing the presentation by the proposed builder of the organ and talking with our parish’s Music Director/Matthew Meloche, we decided to make a donation.

One asset that we acquired over the years is stock that has appreciated in value - not in a 401K or other retirement account, but in an account that would incur taxes (federal and state) if we were to sell the stock.

We decided to take a portion of that taxable stock holding and donate it to the Parish for the pipe organ campaign. The Diocese sells the stock and then sends the total proceeds to St. Francis Parish.

By donating an asset that has grown in value, the Parish receives the full appreciated value of the stock and my wife, and I receive a fully tax-deductible donation .

Everybody wins - the Parish receives an enhanced donation, and we receive an enhanced deduction on our tax return.

If you have questions about this, I suggest that you talk with Father Mike, Matthew or Dion Jenks.

By sharing our “blessings” with St. Francis Parish as explained above, we will be able to enjoy a worship experience that all members of our parish, young and old, will cherish for many years to come.

God bless us all.

An Anonymous St. Francis Parishioner”

St. Francis In most dioceses of the United States, the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi this year on Sunday, June 7, following the traditional rhythm of the calendar shortly after Trinity Sunday. The feast, instituted in 1264 by Pope Urban IV, highlights the Church’s faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. “Corpus Christi” is Latin for “Body of Christ,” drawing our attention to Christ truly present under the appearances of bread and wine.
Throughout history, deep devotion to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament has marked the lives of the saints; by following their example, we too can grow in love for Jesus present in the Eucharist and strengthen our friendship with him through his Body and Blood.
