Hope Lutheran Youth New Mexico Servant Trip
Tuesday, June 16th

Hope’s Youth began the last full day in Angel Fire at Firewood Angels.
This organization runs a “wood bank” to provide needed firewood through the long winters up here in the mountains to people with limited finances. Our group pitched in with regular local volunteers to cutdown, split and move a lot of firewood.
After a quick lunch, the youth headed to the
New Mexico Vietnam Veterans Memorial here in Angel Fire. The group worked to wash windows, help prepare flags for retirement, and wash down the museum’s scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC.
After a speedy cleanup, we went up on top of the mountain with Pastor Ben and his wife Rachel. Ben is a full time rancher of cattle, while serving as pastor of congregations in Angel Fire, Taos, and Springer.
The evening was concluded with thanking our wonderful hosts, Tom and Rosie Fisher, before evening devotions.
We appreciate your prayers as we begin our journey back on Wednesday.

Hope Youth Group Servant Trip- Day 6
Monday, June 15th

Monday for Hope’s Youth meant a trip to the Eagle Nest Senior Center.
The facility provides meals everyday for those in the community who need it. In addition, it is the hub for Meals on Wheels for the area.
The group had a LOT to do as the center has all new leaders and no maintenance staff. In addition to other things, the group mopped floors, moved furniture, deep cleaned the food delivery trucks, and organized a stock room.
The Lord brought more much needed rain to the area, and this adjusted our plans.
The afternoon was spent picking up trash along the Red River and adjoining creeks. The highlight was meeting a little boy (Richie), his sister and grandma. The group pitched in to help him find his shoe that had gotten stuck in the creek mud. Upon their return, ask them about “The Great Shoe Rescue”!
The rest of the day included walking around the town of Red River, enjoying a wonderful meal from our gracious hosts Rosie and Tom, twice seeing huge elk herds, evening devotions, and a clear evening for star gazing.
Hope’s Youth were blessed in many ways today!

Day 5 Update!
Sunday, June 14th

The Hope Youth cleaned up the church building and set up the sanctuary to worship with the congregation of Christ Our Savior in Angel Fire. The group was blessed to hear an excellent sermon from Pastor Ben Davis, and the youth also prepared and shared a song (Abide with Me) at the end of the service.
Following a time of fellowship, the afternoon was pretty low key, as much needed rain came to the area.
Later in the day, the group created games for one another and joined in evening devotions.
It was a restful Sunday before two busy days ahead.

Day 4 Update!
Saturday, June 13th

Hope’s Youth began Saturday at the Gateway Museum in Eagle Nest, NM (about 10 minutes from Angel Fire).
After spending some time helping to pick up trash and remove unwanted items, the group learned about the old west history of this whole area from the volunteers who run the museum.

In the afternoon, the group was treated to some time on Monte Verde Lake and then an amazing meal made by Isabel (a member of Christ Our Savior in Angel Fire).
After supper, they played some volleyball at the church, spent time in devotions, started getting ready for Sunday by putting back some of the church, and Pastor Jason got some towels washed.

Friday, June 12th

Hope’s youth had a busy first full day in Angel Fire. The morning was spent at the town library that is completely funded by individual donations and run by volunteers.
The group helped by pulling weeds and three unwanted trees, taking rebar out of rotting railroad ties, putting down landscaping rock to keep water away from the building, and planting bushes. It was hard work in the hot New Mexico sun, but very rewarding.
After lunch, they worked on projects at the church. Some helped move rock and dirt, others pulled weeds and prairie grass, and most stained the deck entry ways to the building.
The evening brought time to relax, spend time in devotions, and play a few games. The group has been blessed with good weather and wonderful people to serve with and for.
Thank you for your continued prayers!

Thursday, June 11th
After four more hours in the van (spotting some antelope along the way!), our youth arrived in Angel Fire and Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church.
The wonderful hosts (Tom, Rosie, and Phil) were there to greet the group and describe all of the projects for the week.
Then it was time to set up sleeping areas, buy groceries and make supper, as everyone was given the afternoon to settle in and adjust to being 8500 feet above sea level.
After evening devotions, it was early to bed (relatively early) to get to work in the morning.

Hope’s Youth had a full day of travel yesterday, as they headed to Angel Fire, NM for a week of service. The van is very full, but everyone did great as they enjoyed some music and finished the long day of traveling with some time in evening devotions together at their hotel in Western Oklahoma.
They only had 4 hours today to get to Angel Fire. Thank you for your prayers as the youth and leaders finish their travel and begin serving!

The prophet Hosea provides us with a stark contrast between our promises and the promises of God. Our promises tend to be like how Israel's love for God was described, "Your love is like the morning cloud, like the early dew that disappears.” But God's love is quite different - faithful, constant, certain. As we rejoice in the promises of God, we seek His help in keeping our promises of faithfulness to Him.

Revealed in His Handiwork” (Genesis 1-2 & Psalm 19:1)

David sings in Psalm 19, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” From creation to redemption and on to sanctification, this Sunday we stand alongside David and marvel at the Grand Artist, the Triune God, who reveals Himself in His Artwork – in the Creation, in the Savior and in the New Creation of His people.
