The Heppner SDA church joins in the acknowledgement the national Sabbath from sundown Friday the 15th to nightfall on Saturday 16th as proclaimed by president Trump. This reflects and acknowledges 3300 years of the Jewish tradition of remembering and keeping the Sabbath holy.

Yet, the Jewish faith was drawing on a much older tradition of faith back before Abraham, Noah, Enoch, Seth, all the way back to Adam and his bride Eve enjoying their first 24 hours of life together in a garden and world of perfection. The Creator God of the whole universe, we know Him as the Lord Jesus Christ, had just declared all his humanity and his creation very Good and was now resting in enjoyment of His creation. Those 24 hours were a time of great joy, love and wonder. In a world free from sin God rested, and all humanity, all two of us, abided with and worshipped their Creator in perfect love and in a face-to-face relationship with Him.

Later, because of the serpent's deceptions about the Creator's character of love, sin shattered this world of perfection. Humanity lost so much that day and yet the Creator promised to restore everything in the future. For fallen humanity the Creator promised to end sin and restore humanity again. He did this in person on a cross 2000 years ago through the lineage of Abraham's offspring the Lord Jesus Christ.

So when God said "Remember the Sabbath” as a part of His holy Ten Commandment law, it was about remembering we all are directly crafted by God. This is why HE can offer the promise to re-create us back into His image free from the curse of sin. Each weekly Sabbath points us to Our Creator and Savior, Who is the Author and Finisher of our faith. The battle against Sin and death in our life's is His to win, and was Won, Just as God rested from his work of Creation on the 7th day. Likewise, He Rested from his work of Saving us on a 7th day in a tomb.

America, from its very founding, recognized the fact we are Creations of God by saying all men and women are created with inalienable rights. So it is fitting on this 250th anniversary of America that we would remember the Lord Jesus Christ as our creator on a Sabbath Day, because He is the Lord of the Sabbath.

The Heppner SDA church invites all residents of the Willow Creek valley to remember with us our Creator on His Day. We are having our usual celebration of the Sabbath on May 16th at 11:15 A.M. There will be a free meal to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
