On April 24, 1581, St. Vincent de Paul was born.

His belief that every person deserves dignity and compassion transformed how the world responds to poverty and continues to guide our work today.

More than four centuries later, Vincentians carry forward that mission, serving neighbors in need through acts of charity, justice, and love.

💙 Inspired by his example, we continue to serve.

Ever wonder what the Society of St. Vincent de Paul does?

The members of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul at Saint Maria Goretti Parish embrace the mission of serving Christ through service to our neighbors in need within the surrounding communities. Guided by the generosity of the community and volunteer members, we provide both practical assistance and compassionate support to many local families facing difficult circumstances.

During the 2024–2025 fiscal year, Vincentian volunteers conducted 265 home visits and served 620 neighbors in need, offering not only financial assistance but also encouragement, respect, and personal connection. Our members devoted 2,924 hours of service, reflecting the dedication of volunteers who respond whenever a neighbor calls for help.

Food insecurity continues to be a significant challenge in our community. Through the monthly grocery collections, we distributed 2,180 grocery bags to area pantries with an estimated value of $76,300. These groceries helped families maintain stability during times of financial hardship.

In addition to food assistance, the conference provided $181,483 in direct aid to neighbors, helping families remain safely housed and maintain essential services. The majority of assistance supported housing needs (75%). The total amount of funds disbursed includes funds from partner churches to support specific neighbors. Saint Maria Goretti SVdP and 14 local churches collaborate and share assets to serve the poor.

None of this work would be possible without the continued generosity of the community. If you would like to make a donation to support our mission, please mail your check payable to SMG Society of St Vincent de Paul and mail it to SMG Society of St Vincent de Paul, 1601 Derstine Rd, Hatfield, PA 19440. (Parishioners of SMG can also drop it in the collection basket at mass marked for St Vincent de Paul).

If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, please contact us at 215-721-0199 ext 224. All information is kept confidential.

Saint Louise de Marillac
Born: August 1591 / Died: March 1660

Louise de Marillac was the co-founder, with Vincent de Paul, of the Daughters of Charity. She was canonized in 1934 and declared patroness of social workers in 1960.

In 1633, the Daughters of Charity were founded in Paris, France, by St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac. Deeply concerned with the poverty and suffering surrounding them, they brought together a group of young women who shared their dedication of helping the poor and the sick.
