This may be a familiar passage for those who participated in our Lenten study this year. The author of our Lenten series was Barbara Brown Taylor who reads an excerpt from her book that we read. Be on the look out for our Advent book series- another book by Barbara Brown Taylor titled “Learning to Walk in the Dark.”

We gather today as the people of God, as a community of Christ’s followers. We gather to share Word and sacrament, to discern the ways of faithful service. We serve our God in this community and throughout every land. Let us serve by working toward justice where there is oppression, by offering comfort where there is pain, by sharing love where there is hatred. The Spirit beckons us, because Jesus calls us to enact our faith. Let us now worship the one who calls us!

In this view, you can still build your subdivision, but you’re going to save all the trees you can, planting two for every one you cut down, and at least covering the rudely exposed topsoil with wheat straw so that it doesn’t blow away.

Gracious and Loving God, we give thanks for the many ways we see your abiding presence throughout scripture and within our own lives. You hear not only our praise but also our complaints. Teach us to hear our own grumbling as a signifier to redirect our thoughts and lives to gratitude and generosity. In hearing our own complaints, may we look to Christ Jesus for examples of grace. And may we follow your Holy Spirit to offer presence to one another, as we walk in faith together. Amen.

Today (Tuesday September 22) we continue with the interfaith project, Writing the Names. Remembering the Palestinians, over 78,000, mostly women and children killed, since October 7th.
TODAY 10-3 in the ASSR room!

A years' long project is almost completed today... The final pieces were added to this puzzle. The only thing left is to frame and mount it.

Each puzzle piece was sponsored by a member or family, and all 502 were placed together. It is symbolic of the church - not just the photos of our stained glass windows depicting the Good Shepherd, but of all the pieces (God's individual pieces, YOU) that come together to make a whole. Because without all of the voices, talents, the community of faith, we'd be just an empty, vacant window pane. Instead, we're more of a tapestry, like the many pieces of stained glass that made the original window.

So many shapes, sizes, colors, but when placed together with the Artist's touch, it makes for a beautiful piece of creation. We are thankful to be a part of this community, in this time, doing what we can to make our world a better place for all.
