“Instead of what do I have left? We begin by asking, Lord, as I make plans for what you have given me, how can I honor you? How can I support the proclamation of your word? How can I how can I care for my neighbor? Those are questions that scripture invites us to put at the beginning of the budget, at the beginning of the calendar, at the beginning of our plans. Because first fruits involves more than just money. It does include our time, our abilities, our whole being in life to say, Lord, you've been generous to me. How can I serve with what you've placed in my hands?”

Honor God at the Beginning
Scripture reading: Proverbs 3:5–10 Deuteronomy 26:1–11; Matthew 6:25–33
Trusting the Lord with all our heart includes the part that worries when we open the bills. Firstfruits giving begins by recognizing that everything in our hands has come from Him, so honoring Him belongs at the beginning of our plans. If generosity waits until every want is satisfied, there will always be another expense or upgrade ready to take its place. God invites us to plan wisely for our families while also asking how His gifts can support His Word and care for our neighbors. The picture of full barns in Proverbs does not guarantee that giving will make us wealthy or allow us to purchase God's favor. Our confidence rests in the Father who has already given us His Son and knows what we need. With that assurance, we can make room for generosity in our budgets, calendars, and daily decisions.
Prayer prompt: Father, help me trust Your care and honor You at the beginning of my planning; show me where generosity has been waiting for leftovers.

Rich in Christ
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 8:9; Ephesians 1:3–8; Romans 8:32
The greatest proof of God’s generosity is not found in our bank accounts, but at the cross. Though Christ was rich, for our sake He became poor, taking on flesh and bearing our sin so that we might receive His forgiveness, life, and eternal inheritance. In Him, you have a name that no market crash can take away: beloved child of God. You have a Savior who will not leave you, a resurrection no death can prevent, and riches that money can never purchase. Because Christ has given us more than enough, we are free to hold earthly gifts with open hands and use them for His purposes.
Prayer Prompt: Jesus, thank You for making me rich in mercy, forgiveness, and eternal life. Free me from trusting money, and make my life a joyful reflection of Your generosity.

“And here's Solomon with all that he has recognizes the same thing. It's all temporary and you're not taking it with you. Now, Solomon and Job both give us that not to make us despair, but rather to free us. To free us. Freeing us from the crushing burden of acting as if our stuff can save us. That we don't have to make the accumulation of more our identity. We don't have to make financial security our God nor spend our lives chasing after the wind as Solomon says it at the end of this passage. Because the things in our hands are gifts. They're entrusted to us for a short period of time, and the God who entrusted to us, of them to us is faithful.”

Use Temporary Things for Eternal Good
Scripture Reading: Luke 16:9–12; 2 Corinthians 8:12–15; Galatians 6:9–10
Jesus says to use worldly wealth wisely because it will fail. Money, possessions, jobs, health, and earthly security do not last, but they can become tools for love and mercy while God places them in our hands. What we have can feed the hungry, care for the vulnerable, strengthen the church’s ministry, support missionaries, and bring the Gospel to people who need hope. God does not ask us to give what He has not given us, nor does He measure faithfulness by comparing our gift to another person’s. He simply calls us to be faithful with what is in our hands today.
Prayer Prompt: Lord, show me someone I can serve with the time, resources, abilities, or possessions You have entrusted to me. Make me generous without fear and wise without selfishness.

“And that can be sound threatening at times, but remember who this master is. The Lord God is not a greedy master looking for a way to to take things away from us. He is a God who gives. He is the father from whom every good and perfect gift comes from above. Giving us life and family. Giving us daily bread, the work of our hands, even the people he's placed around us in our lives. And above all that, he's given us his son. So that the question we look at is is not is God generous? The question is whether we will trust his generosity to live as stewards of the stuff he's given to us.”

Look Ahead
Scripture Reading: Luke 16:3–8; Hebrews 9:27; Colossians 3:1–4
The manager in Jesus’ parable suddenly realized that his present position would not last forever. He looked ahead and acted with urgency because he knew a day of reckoning was coming. We also live with the certainty that death, judgment, and eternity are real. That truth need not make the Christian despair, because Christ has faced judgment for us and has secured our eternal future by His cross. Yet it does call us to live wisely today, remembering that this life is temporary and God’s promises are everlasting.
Prayer Prompt: Jesus, turn my eyes from what is temporary to what is eternal. Help me live each day in the confidence that my future is secure in You
