Job Description/Agreement
Organist and or Pianist
ORGANIST and or PIANIST
Basic Duties
1. Must work with Choir Director for all choir and instrumental rehearsals.
2. Accompany choir rehearsals, instrumental rehearsals, and church services.
3. Provide organ/ piano music and arrange for appropriate musical offerings for regular services, scheduled services, and special services throughout the year.
4. Provide for musical portion of services at weddings for members and nonmembers held within the church. A donation of $100.00 will be paid directly to the organist.
5. Provide music for funerals held within the church if requested. Fee is determined by individual families through the funeral director.
6. Shall obtain rehearsal and Sunday service assistance/substitute during periods of illness, personal emergencies, and vacation (Four Sundays per year.)
7. Except in cases of sudden illness or personal emergency, the services of a substitute organist/ pianist should be scheduled well in advance to allow adequate time for preparation.
8. Be responsible for obtaining and paying supply organist/ pianist during absences beyond allotted scheduled vacation. (Four Sunday per year).
9. Participate in relevant workshops, conferences, and continuing education opportunities (church will pay for fees within the continuing education budget).
10. Church will offer to maintain all relevant professional memberships (ie: American Guild of Organists, Association of Lutheran Church Musicians)
11. All individuals desiring to use the organ or piano must obtain permission from the organist and or pianist
12. Must always, in appearance, word, and behavior, conduct oneself in a manner worthy of an employee of the church.
13. Must be flexible to adjust your schedule to the needs of the church.
14. Failure to adhere to contract is grounds for dismissal.
NUMBER OF HOURS WEEKLY – Part time approximately 10 hours per week. (5 hours for practice, 2 hours for Wednesday evening rehearsals, 3 hours for Sunday morning preparation and service)

- Purchase of all necessary music, music supplies, and maintenance within the budget guidelines.
- Music and supplies purchased with church funds shall remain property of the church.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Be competent at the piano and or the console of the organ, to lead the congregation with clear registration and appropriate pacing.
2. Familiarity with a variety of musical styles, including traditional, contemporary and multicultural repertoire.
3. Be able to generate enthusiasm.
4. Must work well with the congregation and understand the needs of the congregation.
5. Have respect for the musical heritage of this congregation.
6. Understand the needs of the congregation.
7. Excellent communication; organizational, and administrative skills, including budget management and copyright compliance.
8. Openness to learn.
9. Work harmoniously with volunteer musicians of all ages, staff, and congregation.
ORGANIZATION (ACCOUNTATIBILITY GUIDELINES)
1. Will play organ or piano for Sunday Worship and other services throughout the year
2. Immediate supervisor will be the Pastor.
3. Salary review and annual evaluation by Executive Committee.
4. Employee of the Church.
5. Probationary period (on contract).
6. Vacation: four Sundays per year approved by Council at least one month prior.
Misc. Information
Reviews will be conducted annually
Vacation will not be approved during Holy Week or the week prior to Christmas.
If unable to get to work due to illness or personal reason, Pastor must be notified.
If there is a planned absence on any Sunday, prior arrangements should be made in advance to provide music for that day.
