SAME - So All May Eat Since the 1960s Hampton Baptist has been involved in alleviating hunger in downtown Hampton. Now SAME is the program that works with our neighbors in need.

To create an interfaith community by addressing nutritional and physical needs with our neighbors who are homeless or living in poverty so we might together experience the fullness of God's love and grace.

SUMMER AT SAME! First of 11 weeks of our Summer Bag Lunch program was a JOY! The young folks from Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads showed up! They made meatball subs, packed bags and did the messy work of making 160 PB&J sandwiches. Our Choice Pantry had milk, fresh produce and the youngest volunteer of the day who brought in some toys to give away to the kids that showed up today. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Some folks from the Hampton, VA - Gov City Manager's office stopped by with city employee donations (YAY - people are hungry in the summer too 😁) AND Robyn from the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank came by to see (and help) distribute bus passes we were able to purchase through a Healthy Pantry Intiatiave grant. WHEW...and that that is just the FIRST week of summer!

What does love look like? Well, in 2015 it meant keeping lunches coming during the summer months when kids are out of school...for the first time since Hampton Baptist Church started a Monday lunch program in the 1960s! AND if meant our volunteers were willing to wear different hats: This picture from 2016 shows Cameilia (one of the BaD ladies - Bread and Desserts) and Liz (from our Toiletry program) in the kitchen making PB&J. JUNE 29TH begins our 2026 summer bag lunch program, openning up for the 11th year!

We sure missed our regular volunteers from Serve the City Peninsula this month at our Mobile Food Pantry but they graciously took the day off so that a group of York High School SENIORS could come out for a day of service to the community. And when the bus took them away, it was left to the SUPERWOMEN volunteers to finish up! Thanks to our partners at the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and all the volunteers for coming out to ensure our neighbors received lots of good food today!
