Family Formation

Family Formation Enabling Catholic parents to be the primary educators of their children in the faith. Why Family Formation?

A careful reading through the documents of the Catholic Church quickly reveals the Church’s great expectations for the family. “The right and duty of parents to give education is essential … original and primary … and it is irreplaceable and incapable of being entirely delegated to others.” Familiaris Consortio, 36 “The family is a domestic church.” Lumen Gentium, 11
As a Church, we realize

our ineffectiveness to catechize children if their parents are not involved in the process. By evangelizing parents to realize what the Church is asking of them, and giving them support and encouragement in their mission, we are answering the Church’s call. In a nutshell, this is what Family Formation accomplishes. Adult catechesis teaches and encourages parents and provides them with the Catholic “know-how” to share the Good News and the beauty of the Catholic Faith with their children. Family Formation is a tried and true Catholic teaching resource developed by regular parents with normal family lives. The materials are engaging, down-to-earth, and easy to understand. Family Formation is meant to bring the family together once a week to learn their Faith in joy and with excitement.

Congratulations to Sebastian Spencer and Peter Romens, two former Family Formation kids who were ordained to the priesthood on Saturday in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Later at his reception, Father Peter thanked his parents, saying, "Raising me in the Faith is the greatest gift I ever received."

Happy Easter from the Family Formation team! Truly He is risen!

Here are some easy tips to help keep the Easter celebration going all the way through Pentecost:
*If your family buried an Alleluia at the beginning of Lent, find it and display it on your prayer table.
*Church bells have been silent for all of Lent. Ring a small bell to call your family to prayer time. If you live alone, start your own prayer time by ringing a joyful little bell.
*Keep fresh flowers in your home.
*Tell stories of family baptisms.
*Drape any crosses of crucifixes you may have with a strip of white cloth.
*Decorate your family prayer space in white or gold.
*Read the Easter story from Matthew 28
*Use the old Easter greet and response: “Christ is risen!” “Truly He is risen!”
*Add an “alleluia” to the “amen” at your prayer times.
*Sing your favorite Alleluia songs together.

Lenten encouragement from Pope Leo XIV: I would like to invite you to a very practical and frequently unappreciated form of abstinence: that of refraining from words that offend and hurt our neighbor. Let us begin by disarming our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgement...Instead, let us strive to measure our words and cultivate kindness and respect...In this way, words of hatred will give way to words of hope and peace. (~Message of the Holy Father Leo XIV for Lent 2026)
