A good memory popped up this morning!

Michael Card and John Thompson wrote "El Shaddai" in 1981. The song (number 123 in The United Methodist Hymnal) utilizes lyrics in the Hebrew language, adding to the timeless aspect of God's name--as these words have existed for thousands of years.

"El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
El Elyon na Adonai;
age to age you're still the same
by the power of your name." 🎶

What reminds you of God's timelessness? Are there others songs which inspire a sense of awe about God's being?

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for Messages in Music/Sermons in Songs, shared by our church family’s 5 keyboard musicians: Lynda Menefee, Jean Densmore, Kim Langgaard, Trish Buttler, and Debbie Menning. Also, thanks to Jessica Langgaard for the beautiful vocal solo.

Next Sunday, Sunday School begins, Pastor Dave returns, and the UWF are hosting a fundraiser dinner after worship for our new refrigerator. See you then!

We were not designed to live isolated lives.

From the beginning, God made people for relationship, first with Him, then with one another. The picture in Acts 2 is a reminder of what that is supposed to look like. Believers gathered, learned together, prayed together, shared meals, supported one another, worshiped together, and carried each other through the joys and burdens of life.

That is church.

Not a building. Not a stage. Not a performance. Church is the body of Christ living in community.

That does not mean every church gets it right. Churches are filled with imperfect people, which means there will be disagreements, disappointments, awkward moments, and sometimes real hurt. No congregation is going to look like the perfect picture every Sunday.

But the answer is not to give up on church.

We still need people who will pray with us when life gets hard. We need older believers who can teach us, younger believers who can encourage us, friends who will tell us the truth, families who will share a table, and brothers and sisters in Christ who will show up when we cannot carry the load alone.

We need places where our children can see faith lived out in real life, not just talked about.

We need to worship together, learn together, serve together, and remind each other that we belong to something bigger than ourselves.

The early church understood that Christianity was never meant to be a solo project. Faith is personal, but it was never intended to be private.

So yes, church can be messy. People can fail us. Leaders can disappoint us. We can walk through seasons when staying home feels easier.

Go anyway.

Find a faithful church that teaches the Bible, loves people, serves its community, and points people to Jesus. Then do more than attend. Participate. Encourage someone. Bring a meal. Pray with someone. Learn a name. Invite a family over. Be the church member you hope to find.

Be the church.

And this Sunday, go to church.
