This is session 3 of our series on Connecting with others like Jesus did. Our scripture references are Luke 10:25-37. Life’s lessons on love take a wide prospective for each individual. What’s in your heart may not be what’s in my heart. Helping individuals is a different story with each one of us and those we encounter. That is an individuals heart, and how he reacts to situations at hand. We have the story in Luke 10 telling us about the encounter. The priest passed by, the Levi passed by, but the Samaritan had compassion and stopped and ministered to the wounded traveler who had been beaten and stole from. Loving others isn’t always easy. Loving the man interrupted the Samaritans plans. The Samaritan had to bandage the wounds of the man. The Samaritan spent the night with the man at the inn to take care of him. The Samaritan paid the innkeeper to care for the man when he left and said he would reimburse the innkeeper when he come back through. We must always be prepared for the in-expected. Maybe we need to stop trying to figure out who our neighbor is and instead , be a neighbor to whomever we meet who is in need.

The Pharisees and Sadducees originated in the 2nd century B.C. It was the spread of the Greek culture. They were the so-called religious group and governed or ruled on the Jewish faith. They accepted the Torah but also made their rules to go by. Most were wealthy Aristocrats.( A privileged upper class group.) This is session 2 and our lesson title is “MAKING OTHERS A PRIORITY.” Our scripture references are Luke 7:36-48. Our point to remember is: We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Our every day life is making others a priority. Some do not wish to be made a priority. Our experiences with others opens the door to share Jesus with others. If we follow Jesus’s example, we won’t let a person’s behavior, political allegiance, or reputation keep us from seeing who they really are. Legalism believes you can earn or achieve righteousness through certain practices or works rather than faith in God‘s grace. Legalism focuses on outward appearances instead of a genuine inner commitment of faith toward God. Legalism quickly develops a judgmental attitude, basing opinions of others on their mistakes rather than their walk with the Lord. We do not need to allow a bunch of rules to be substituted for making decisions about Jesus. Grace is the opposite of legalism, and it’s the only way to be right with God. Grace is gods unmerited favor; grace is God giving us something we don’t deserve. God‘s grace is greater than any and all sin. Regardless of your status, your arrogance, your wealth, or whatever you possess, nothing takes place of the Holy Spirit that lives within you daily. We may have been just like them before we were saved. Let’s follow Jesus’s example and reach out to those who are sinful.

We are going to have a 6 session series again on Connecting with others, like Jesus did. Our first lesson is “Meeting Needs”. Life is made up of meeting needs with many people. We will discover and see how Jesus demonstrated meeting the needs of others. Let us remember that meeting needs is an opportunity to introduce others to Jesus. Our scripture passage is Luke 5:12-16,27-32. Everyone has needs that need to be met. Luke recorded the healing of a man’s leprosy by Jesus. The l***r asked Jesus to heal him and Jesus cleansed his leprosy. This is a picture of compassion. Jesus performed many miracles in healing and changing peoples lives. Meeting their needs. Compassion is a strong emotion that can be a strong motivator. It moves us to good intentions. It will motivate us to do something about it. Meeting the needs of others can be so effective in sharing the gospel. Don’t let the world looking in at you change your mind in what you do for others. The disease of sin is rampant and terminal . Those who are suffering from the disease of sin need the cure. We have that cure. Have compassion and share the gospel with others.

As we close out this session, we are going to share thoughts about Joshua and his obedience to God. This lesson says “Don’t Forget to Remember.” Joshua was a godly person who followed God. He was likely by Moses’s side when the Israelites left Egypt. He had no doubt watched as the Red Sea parted and then just as quickly closed up on the Egyptians. He served as 1 of 2 spies that was faithful . Joshua marched around Jericho and the walls come tumbling down. Joshua was obedient. We live in a world of disobedience and the numbers in front of us shouts out disobedience in all categories. Just look around in any direction and you can see faults, failures, and disobedience. We wish for a better world but there’s hurdle after hurdle standing tall. God is faithful. Allow Jesus to influence your relationship with Him and become a full time all time follower.
