The Pharisees and Sadducees originated in the 2nd century B.C. It was the spread of the Greek culture. They were the so-called religious group and governed or ruled on the Jewish faith. They accepted the Torah but also made their rules to go by. Most were wealthy Aristocrats.( A privileged upper class group.) This is session 2 and our lesson title is “MAKING OTHERS A PRIORITY.” Our scripture references are Luke 7:36-48. Our point to remember is: We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Our every day life is making others a priority. Some do not wish to be made a priority. Our experiences with others opens the door to share Jesus with others. If we follow Jesus’s example, we won’t let a person’s behavior, political allegiance, or reputation keep us from seeing who they really are. Legalism believes you can earn or achieve righteousness through certain practices or works rather than faith in God‘s grace. Legalism focuses on outward appearances instead of a genuine inner commitment of faith toward God. Legalism quickly develops a judgmental attitude, basing opinions of others on their mistakes rather than their walk with the Lord. We do not need to allow a bunch of rules to be substituted for making decisions about Jesus. Grace is the opposite of legalism, and it’s the only way to be right with God. Grace is gods unmerited favor; grace is God giving us something we don’t deserve. God‘s grace is greater than any and all sin. Regardless of your status, your arrogance, your wealth, or whatever you possess, nothing takes place of the Holy Spirit that lives within you daily. We may have been just like them before we were saved. Let’s follow Jesus’s example and reach out to those who are sinful.
