I have worked most of the day today making some changes on this project. Probably what made me think hard was the school bus comment and scheduling changes for those families. Then I started thinking about fire trucks and ambulances needing to shave a few minutes off of their response times. Safety of our people, children, and veterans are three things that I have and will continue to support.
With that being said we have decided to get the contractor to delay starting this project for one week while we begin the process of making a temporary detour around the bridge construction. However , we expect it to take 3-4 weeks for the temporary to be completed. With that being said, the road will still be closed for 2-4 weeks while all this happens. Sorry, but the government don’t make things happen as quick as private companies. Also, I don’t expect this bridge replacement to take any more than 6 months. The 12 month announcement was put out for the contractor to not go over their allocation of time.
This bridge is $1,058,000 that we are receiving from state aid money. We couldn’t hardly afford to not accept that and have a bridge that will likely last the lifetime of most everyone that reads this. I was extremely happy for our district to secure this funding. I truly hope this makes everyone feel better about this project. I’m sure proud to be making progress for all of us. Thanks Mike Smith
