Born June 15, 1938, in Greenville, Mississippi, J.D. was the son of John Dominic Rosella II and Mary Belle O’Donnell Rosella. His Catholic education included St. Rose of Lima until 1950, St. Joseph’s High School until graduation in 1956, and Spring Hill (Jesuit) College in Mobile, Alabama until graduation in 1960. He valued the academic excellence and disciplined environment he received from traditional Catholic instruction during his primary, secondary, and higher education.
For more than 65 years, J.D. owned and operated retail furniture, appliance, real estate, and financial companies, continuing his father's legacy. Serving as a longtime member of AVB BrandSource, he expanded his business interests to include wholesale distribution from Asian markets to regional U.S. retailers. J.D.'s enthusiasm for business opportunities and an adventurous spirit led him to explore different places, ideas, & cultures, becoming an experienced world traveler, and he cultivated an appreciation for fine foods and grand hotels.
J.D. embodied deep-rooted traditions in Greenville, holding a lifetime of local knowledge, its history, and practical wisdom about Greenville’s past changes and its economy. His quiet time included attending St. Joseph and Washington High School football games, following national and international news, watching a Saturday night college football game, and a relaxing Sunday ritual of reading from a stack of that week’s Wall Street Journals.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick O’Donnell Rosella; daughter, Renee Rosella Watson; and grandson, Jonathan Brett Watson.
J.D. is survived by his wife, Jing Rosella; his children, Margo Lynn Rosella of Greenville and John Dominic Rosella IV of Columbia, South Carolina; his brother, Michael Roger (Dusty) Rosella (Judy) of Southaven, Mississippi; his grandson, Joshua Dylan Watson of Shanghai, China; and other extended family members (nieces and nephew).
