Next up are SOME of the amazing DePauw Students we've been blessed to welcome into our church these past several years. It's great to see what God is doing on DePauw's campus, and if the students who come through our doors on Sunday are any indication of what kind of Tigers are stepping out into the world ... well, the world has some great graduates going on to wonderful things.
Tommy Manning will be going to the University of Minnesota where he will be pursuing a PhD in apex predator (gorillas/chimps/etc.) and human interactions. He will be studying with someone who studied under Dr. Jane Goodall. So, there's that!
Tommy came to DePauw having received the Lilly Scholarship and as the son of Matt and Libby Manning, both of whom are ordained Lutheran pastors. Libby serves as the program director for the Wabash Pastoral Leadership Program and on her local community foundation board. She also served as our interim pastor while I was on sabbatical in 2022 & 2023.
Eli VanHaaren is going back to Hamilton County where he will be working during the day and continuing to give back to the lives of youth through Young Life. Oh, and you can bet he'll be playing ALL THE SPORTS! During his time at DePauw, Eli became heavily involved with FCA and Young Life, serving on their leadership teams. He was also a four-year swimmer for the Tigers.
Courtney Marsh also swam for the DePauw Swim Team and distinguished herself as an honor scholar. Like Eli, she also helped lead Young Life at DePauw and was a great place of support for other believers on campus. She will be pursuing her interest in justice advocacy beyond DePauw.
Ethan Williams is our other graduating DePauw swimmer and has been a great addition to our church family over these past few years. He and several other friends can often be found up near the front on Sunday mornings :)
Blake Woodard will be walking/graduating this May, but he will be returning to campus in the Fall to participate one more season with the DePauw football program. Blake along with Holt Hilderbrand have been part of a record-setting DePauw senior class for the football team. Blake is coming off an injury that sidelined him last season and eager to contribute to another successful Tiger run in the football season.
Rebecca Jackson has been a great gift to us, providing children's sermons and a warm presence in our church family. She's done the same at DePauw where she's participated with Young Life and blessed others with her love for Jesus.
Kathryn Smith will be heading back to Colorado after graduation where she will work at Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp again this summer before continuing to bless others through groups like Young Life. Kathryn has been a Little 5 rider and a key part of the Young Life ministry on DePauw's campus as well.
We've also been blessed with several other DePauw seniors who've come over this way on Sundays, everyone from Justus to Macy to Jayla to many more.
Join us as we celebrate their accomplishments this coming Sunday and send them off with our prayers and blessings!
