Tomorrow: Eat This Book.

At one point, God hands his prophet Ezekiel a scroll and tells him to eat it. Not read it. Not study it. Eat it. How do we receive the word of God like food to nourish us?

Harvest Youth is back next week! Wednesday, September 2.

Doors open at 6:30 pm. We go from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

Games, teaching, and small groups. Students, bring a friend!

Parents, pick up at 8:30 pm.

A prayer for the first day of school:

Father,
Be with the students walking in nervous today. With the teachers who lay awake last night. With the principals carrying a whole building. With the aides and secretaries dealing with all the things. With the paraprofessionals sitting beside the child who needs someone there. With the bus drivers out in the dark, the custodians who lock up long after the buildings are empty, and the school district staff nobody sees.
Be with the parents teaching at their own kitchen tables, and every parent who watched a child walk away this morning.
Keep them safe. Keep them patient. Remind them they are not alone, and they are loved.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Here is the turn we made on Sunday. Most of us read this parable assuming we are the soil. Jesus opens the story with a farmer.

That changes the question. Not what kind of soil am I, but what does it look like for me to plant the truth of God's word in the lives of the people around me?

Four things that make a farmer productive:

1. Recognize the soil in other people's lives. You do not talk to packed ground the same way you talk to ground that is ready.

2. Plant at the right time, in the right way. Same seed, different moment. Timing matters.

3. Keep with it. Nothing you scatter comes up the same week you scatter it. Planting and harvest are different seasons with different work.

4. Don't give up. The farmer in this story loses seed on three soils out of four, and goes back out anyway. Keep scattering truth.

You already know whose life you are supposed to be scattering into. You thought of them before you got to the end of this.

Save this and read Luke 8:4-15 this week.

Parents! This Wednesday is our Family Fall Kick-Off. Come learn more about our Harvest Kids & Harvest Youth programs, engage in some fun activities with your kids, and enjoy an ice cream social to get to know other families. We hope to see you and your kids there.
