Camelback's Sunday Re-Cap Devotional
Following Jesus One Step at a Time
Most of us wish God would show us the entire plan before asking us to obey. We want the full map, every detail, and reassurance that everything will work out exactly the way we hope. But that’s usually not how God works. More often, He gives us just the next step.
That’s why this GPS illustration connects so well. When you use GPS, you don’t see the entire journey at once. You simply follow the next direction. Turn here. Keep going. Take the next exit. If you ignore the instructions because they don’t make sense in the moment, you eventually find yourself lost.
Following Jesus works much the same way.
Discipleship is not just believing certain truths about Jesus—it’s choosing to trust and follow Him daily. Sometimes that means forgiving someone when it’s difficult. Sometimes it means serving faithfully, letting go of a sin, stepping out in faith, or obeying God before we fully understand why.
Obedience can feel uncomfortable, but it’s always worth it because God sees the full picture when we cannot.
Gratitude also plays a huge role in discipleship. When we remember God’s goodness, faithfulness, and grace, obedience becomes less about obligation and more about love. A grateful heart says, “Lord, after all You’ve done for me, I want to follow You.”
You may not know every step ahead today, but you can trust the One leading you. And often, spiritual growth happens not in giant leaps, but in simple acts of daily obedience.
