Peter's greatest failure happened around a charcoal fire.

Years later, after the resurrection, Jesus built another charcoal fire and invited Peter to sit down with Him.

Not to shame him.
Not to remind him of his mistakes.

To restore him.

It's a powerful reminder that Jesus doesn't avoid us at the places where we've failed. Often, that's exactly where He meets us.

The same places marked by regret, shame, and disappointment can become places of healing, restoration, and new beginnings when we bring them to Him.

Sometimes Jesus takes us back to the fire—not to relive the past, but to redeem it.

Devotional: Do You Love Me?

After Jesus' resurrection, He met His disciples on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Peter had failed Jesus in a very public way, denying three times that he even knew Him. Yet when Jesus met Peter again, He didn't begin with condemnation. He didn't lecture him about his mistakes. Instead, He asked a simple question:

"Do you love Me?" (John 21:15)

Three times Jesus asked, and three times Peter answered.

What's remarkable is that Jesus didn't wait for Peter to become perfect before restoring him. Peter couldn't point to a flawless record or unwavering faith. All he could offer was an honest heart. And that was enough for Jesus.

Sometimes we think God can only use us when we've got everything together. We wait until our faith feels stronger, our prayers feel deeper, or our lives feel more consistent. But Jesus meets us where we are. He receives the love we can honestly offer today and begins His work from there.

Notice that every time Peter expressed his love, Jesus responded with a commission: "Feed my lambs." "Take care of my sheep." Love for Jesus was never meant to stop with words. It naturally flows into caring for people.

The same is true for us. Loving Jesus means more than attending church, knowing Bible verses, or agreeing with Christian beliefs. It means allowing His love to shape the way we treat others. A kind word, a listening ear, a prayer, an act of generosity—these become expressions of our love for Him.

Today, don't worry about whether your love is perfect. Bring Jesus the love you have, and let Him use it to bless someone else.

He denied Jesus.
He went back to what was familiar.
He probably wondered if his story was over.

But when Jesus met him on the beach, He didn't start with condemnation. He didn't start with a lecture.

He started with a question.

"Do you love me?"

It's a question that still echoes to us today.

Not because Jesus needs information.

Because our answer has the power to change the direction of our lives.

Sometimes people look at someone's life and wonder:

"How are they still standing?"
"How are they still trusting God?"
"How do they have peace in the middle of everything they're facing?"

The answer isn't that life is easy.
The answer is that they're not facing it alone.

Jesus is with them.
And His presence changes everything.

At the beginning of the storm, the disciples called Jesus "Teacher."

By the end of it, they were asking:

"Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him."

What changed?

The storm revealed something they couldn't fully see before.

Jesus wasn't just a teacher.
He wasn't just a good man.

He was Lord.

Sometimes God uses the storms in our lives to deepen our understanding of who He is and strengthen our trust in Him.

Even in uncertainty.
Even in pain.
Even in seasons we didn't choose.

God is still with us.

Storms have a way of making us feel alone.

They make us question what's next.
They make us question whether we'll make it through.

But one of the most powerful truths in this story is that Jesus was in the boat the entire time.

The storm was real.
The fear was real.

But so was His presence.

Your hope isn't in your circumstances.
Your hope isn't in your ability to hold everything together.

Your hope is in the One who's in the boat with you.

Camelback's Sunday Re-cap Devotional

"Why are you so afraid?"

Have you ever noticed how quickly fear can take over?

One unexpected phone call. A difficult diagnosis. A strained relationship. A financial setback. Suddenly our minds start racing with worst-case scenarios, and the storm feels bigger than we are.

The disciples knew exactly what that felt like.

As their boat was being battered by wind and waves, they woke Jesus with a desperate question: "Don't you care if we drown?" (Mark 4:38). It's easy to criticize them, but if we're honest, we've probably asked similar questions ourselves. God, do You see what's happening? Do You care?

After calming the storm, Jesus asked them a question: "Why are you so afraid?" Notice that Jesus didn't ask because He was angry. He asked because He wanted them to remember who was in the boat with them.

Sometimes we assume that following Jesus should protect us from life's storms. But Jesus never promised a trouble-free life. In fact, He said, "In this world you will have trouble" (John 16:33). What He does promise is His presence.

The storm may rock you, but it doesn't have to sink you.

Whatever storm you're facing today, remember this: God has not abandoned you. He is with you. He is for you. And even when you can't see it, He is working through your circumstances in ways you may not understand yet.

Take a moment today to look back on a storm God has already brought you through. The same Jesus who was faithful then is faithful now.
