WHERE IS GOD WHEN LIFE BECOMES DIFFICULT TO BEAR?

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

There are seasons when life becomes heavier than we ever expected.

The prayer hasn’t been answered the way we hoped.
The door hasn’t opened.
The grief still hurts.
The situation hasn’t changed.
And eventually, we find ourselves asking a question that faithful people have asked for generations:

“God, where are You?”

Scripture never teaches us that following Jesus means we will escape suffering. In fact, the Bible is filled with faithful people who encountered grief, disappointment, uncertainty, persecution, and seasons of waiting.

But Psalm 46 gives us an important truth:

God does not promise the absence of trouble. He promises His presence in the middle of it.

The psalmist calls God our refuge and strength—not because everything around us is stable, but precisely because it isn’t. The earth gives way. Mountains fall. Waters roar. Nations rage.

And yet, God remains.

Sometimes we want God to immediately change our circumstances, while God is doing a deeper work of grace within us.

That is part of the beauty of holiness.

God’s grace is not merely working to make our lives more comfortable; His grace is continually drawing us toward Christlikeness—teaching us to trust Him, surrender more completely to Him, love more deeply, and live with a heart wholly devoted to God.

The difficult season is not evidence that God has abandoned you.

He may be nearer than you realize.

When you cannot see what He is doing, you can still trust who He is.

When you do not have the strength for tomorrow, His grace is sufficient for today.

And when life feels too heavy to carry alone, remember:

You were never asked to carry it without Him.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” - Psalm 46:10

God is still present.
God is still faithful.
God is still working.
And even here, His grace is enough.

🙏 HOW TO DEVELOP A STRONG DAILY PRAYER HABIT 🙏

Prayer isn’t meant to be something we only turn to when life gets difficult. It’s an invitation into a daily relationship with God.

As Pastor Tim has been challenging us to become a people of prayer, here are three simple ways to strengthen your prayer life this week:

⏰ SET THE TIME
Make prayer a priority. Choose a consistent time and place to intentionally meet with God.
📖 Mark 1:35

📖 START WITH HIS WORD
Let Scripture guide your conversation with God. Read His Word, listen to what He is saying, and allow His truth to shape what you pray.
📖 John 15:7

🙏 STAY IN THE CONVERSATION
Don’t leave prayer in your quiet time. Talk with God throughout your day—in the ordinary moments, the decisions, the worries, and the victories.
📖 1 Thessalonians 5:17

SET the time. START with His Word. STAY in the conversation.

A strong prayer life isn’t built in a day—it’s built day by day.

What would happen if we became a church that didn’t just believe in the power of prayer, but truly lived a life of prayer?

Though you may not always notice it, God always has, and still does reveal Himself today. This morning we’re looking at Exodus 33:12-17 for the answers we are looking for. See you there!
