St. John's Episcopal Church Glasgow, Va

St. John's Episcopal Church Glasgow, Va We are a parish family who cares deeply for each other, for our community, and for visitors to Glasgow. All are welcome! St. John's was established in 1886.

We follow God's call into the community, wherever it takes us. The first services were held in a small building on the homestead of Major Robert Echols. 1886 Diocesan records show one infant baptism, seven communicants added, and one funeral at the church. The present building was erected between 1895 and 1900 from brick salvaged from an abandoned factory of the "Boom Days." The Parish house (form

er Trinity Chapel at Sherwood, now Natural Bridge Station), was torn down and rebuilt beside St. John's by Mr. Bailey J Locher and Mr. Jesse Walker. In 1956 an addition connecting the two buildings was added.

Sixth hiker dinner on Monday night. We had 32 hikers for dinner. It was a full house. Many thanks to Grace Episcopal Church from Lexington, VA who provided a delicious and plentiful taco bar with salad, dessert and lots of trail magic to take back with them on the trail. Grace will be back next week with a fried chicken dinner.
Rev. Dr. Bob Copenhaver was with us playing the bagpipes and Bruce "Etch-a-sketch" Skillicorn was us for some hiker sketches.

For the next two weeks, dinner will be served at St. John's but Grace Episcopal will be bringing dinner from Lexington. They are doing a taco bar on June 8 and fried chicken of June 15.

2026 Hiker Dinners have started. Last night we fed dinner to about 22 hikers and about 10 volunteers. Thanks to the Rev. Dr. Bob Copenhaver for joining us with his bagpipes. Probably our biggest first dinner of the season. We look forward to meeting more hikers next week.
Thanks to everyone that made something and/or helped out with set up, serving and cleaning up. I think everyone had fun.
