Happy feast of St. Clotilde! She is the patron saint of brides, adopted children, parents, exiles, and widows.
St. Clotilde was born a princess of Burgundy and was married at a young age to King Clovis of the Salian Franks. She brought him to the Christian faith. Following her husband’s death, she retired to Tours, France to care for the poor and the sick.
St. Clotilde, pray for us!

Today is the feast of St. Blandina, patron of those falsely accused and of young women.
St. Blandina was a Christian martyr who was martyred in Lugdunum (modern Lyon, France) during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius
St. Blandina was brave and steadfast in the face of torture and death. She is depicted with a lion, because wild beasts were set on her but they did not touch her.
St. Blandina, pray for us and for all young women!

Today is the feast of St. Justin Martyr!
As a young man, St. Justin was attracted to the school of Plato but he found that the Christian religion answered the great questions about life and existence better than the philosophers.
St. Justin is known as a staunch defender of Christianity against the attacks and misunderstandings of the pagans. He was martyred in Rome in 165.
St. Justin, pray that we may be courageous in the face of opposition to the truth!

Today is the feast of St. Mechtildis, a Benedictine abbess and miracle worker.
She was known for her beautiful singing voice and used it to serve the Lord. At the age of 50, Mechtilde went through a grave spiritual crisis, as well as physical suffering.
She was devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and received visions of Jesus. In one vision, Mechtilde reported that Jesus said, "In the morning let your first act be to greet My Heart and to offer Me your own. Whoever breathes a sigh toward Me, draws Me to himself."

Happy feast of St. Joan of Arc, patron saint of soldiers and France and known as, " The Maid of Orléans. "
St. Joan heard the voices of St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret who told her to drive the English from French territory. At just 16 years old she followed this call.
During the Hundred Years War, Joan led French troops against the English and recaptured the cities of Orléans and Troyes. This enabled Charles VII to be crowned as king in Reims in 1429. Captured near Compiegne the following year, Joan was sold to the English and placed on trial for heresy and witchcraft.
On this day in 1431, Joan was burned at the stake in Rouen, and her ashes were scattered in the Seine River. A second Church trial 25 years later nullified the earlier verdict, which was reached under political pressure.
Remembered by most people for her military exploits, Joan had a great love for the sacraments, which strengthened her compassion toward the poor. Popular devotion to her increased greatly in 19th - century France and later among French soldiers during World War I. Theologian George Tavard writes that her life “offers a perfect example of the conjunction of contemplation and action” because her spiritual insight is that there should be a “unity of heaven and earth."
