How do you eat an elephant?

Most people say, "One bite at a time." But a friend recently shared an even better answer he heard in Africa: "You invite the village!"

It is easy to focus on tasks and deadlines alone, but ministry is meant to be done in community. That village spirit is alive and well right now as we build the new Discipleship Center, a space dedicated to investing in the next generation of summer staff and Gap Year students.

Thanks to generous volunteer teams specializing in construction, over 70% of the labor is being donated. Board by board and one bite at a time, this project is coming together through faithful hands and hearts.

Happy Boss’s Day to the one and only Paul Biles! 🎉

To show some appreciation for our leader here at Tejas Camp and Retreat, the team pulled off a little surprise today, mismatched shoes and all! 👟👞

Since Paul is famous for rocking two completely different shoes every single day, we knew the best way to honor him was to step into his style and show up with mismatched kicks of our own.

When we asked people signing up for Serve Day what skills they could bring to the table, we got some pretty honest answers.

Some people are handy. Others are… so-so.

And then there are those whose special skills include:
✅️ Whining and complaining
✅️ Being tall
✅️ Singing and making paper airplanes
✅️ Building a wooden box and doing Bulgarian squats with 70lbs on each side

Honestly? We appreciate the honesty. 😂

Here's the thing: you don't have to be especially handy to make a difference at Tejas. Whether you're great with tools, good at following directions, tall enough to hang Christmas lights without a ladder, or just willing to show up and help, there's a place for you.

Join us for Serve Day on November 21 as part of Friends of Tejas Weekend! We'll spend the morning working together to care for the place that has meant so much to so many of us.

Come with your skills, whatever they may be. We'll put you to work!
