What does it mean to become a Daughter of the King—and could God be calling you to explore it?

The Order of the Daughters of the King is a community of women committed to prayer, service, and evangelism, seeking to deepen their relationship with Christ while serving faithfully within their parish and community.

Following the enthusiastic response at our recent Ministry Fair, Jane Winfrey, along with visiting officers from the Chicago Diocesan Assembly, will host an informal Q&A on Saturday, September 12, at 9:15 a.m., immediately following the Rector’s Saturday Morning Study (location TBD).

Those interested in exploring further may participate in a three-month diocesan discernment class beginning in January, with no commitment required until the process is complete.

Mark your calendars and register now for the St. Mark’s Church Picnic on Sunday, September 20, from 12:00–4:30 p.m. at Wheeler Park!

Bring the whole family for an afternoon of food, fellowship, fun, and a little friendly competition—including our pie-making contest! St. Mark’s will provide grilled meats and water. Bring a lawn chair, your favorite lawn game, and, if you’d like, sign up to share a dish.

This is a great opportunity to spend time together outside of Sunday morning, catch up with old friends, and get to know some new ones!

This Sunday: Strategic Vision Family Meeting — Register Today!

Where is God calling St. Mark’s in the next three to five years? There’s still time to register for our Strategic Vision Family Meeting this Sunday, August 30, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

Come hear what the Strategic Vision Task Force has been working on and learn more about the key areas we’ve been exploring. We’ll provide important background and context before the upcoming parish-wide survey, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and join the conversation.

Calling all young knitters and crocheters—or anyone who wants to learn!

Yarn Guild Jr. is coming to St. Mark’s! Kids and teens of all skill levels are invited to learn, connect, and create together as we make small knitted and crocheted squares that will eventually become gifts for others.

Yarn Guild Jr. will meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays after the 9:00 a.m. service in Fellowship Hall.

Never picked up knitting needles or a crochet hook? No problem! Miss Jenni will help you get started. Experienced adult knitters and crocheters are also invited to join the fun as helpers and teachers.

The Bible is at the heart of our Christian faith—but that doesn’t mean it always feels easy to approach.

Which Bible should I read? Where do I start? What do I do with the parts I don’t understand? How do I move beyond simply reading the words to understanding what they mean?

This fall, Fr. Jonathan’s Saturday Morning Rector Study returns with a new series: How to Read the Bible.

Beginning Saturday, September 12, from 8:00–9:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall, we’ll get practical about Scripture—where to begin, how to navigate the Bible, what to read and why, how to choose a translation, and how context can help us better understand what we’re reading. The goal is simple: to help each of us approach the Bible with greater confidence, understanding, and purpose.

This isn’t a Bible study where you need to arrive already knowing your way around Scripture. It’s a study designed to help you learn how to read it. If you’re not sure where to begin, want to develop a more meaningful practice, or have questions you’ve never quite known how to ask, you’ll find a welcoming place to start. And for those who have been reading Scripture for years, there will be opportunities to strengthen familiar practices and discover new ways of engaging the text.

Wherever you are in your experience with the Bible, come with your questions and curiosity—and leave better equipped to open Scripture, find your way through it, and understand what you’re reading.

Our 11:02 Prayer Campaign began today! Yesterday, prayer cards were distributed during our worship services, and today we began 21 days of praying together.

Each day at 11:02 a.m., pause for a few moments and pray, “Your kingdom come” (Luke 11:2), for our community and for three friends or family members you would love to see explore faith or join our upcoming Alpha Course.

Why bless a backpack? Because it goes just about everywhere your child goes!

As a new school year begins, we want our children to know that God goes with them, too...into the classroom, to activities, through the challenges and joys of the school day, and back home again.

Worship Ministry Training Reminder

Whether you're a longtime worship volunteer or interested in serving for the first time, you're invited to join us for our next Worship Ministry training session!

Training refreshers for Lay Readers, Epistle Readers, Crucifers, Acolytes, and Chalice Bearers will be offered this upcoming Saturday, August 22 at 9:00 a.m. Training will last approximately one hour.

This gathering provide an opportunity to review our worship practices, answer questions, and ensure everyone feels confident in their role. If you've ever been interested in serving during worship, this is also a wonderful chance to learn more, meet the team, and explore how you can get involved.
