Over the last month, we’ve been exploring the teachings of Jesus in our current series, Losing My Religion. Yesterday, Pastor Shannon wrapped up this series with one last message about our human emotions, specifically looking at anger.

Anger is one of those emotions we all have, whether we like to admit it or not. Our anger can easily take over, threatening to destroy everything. Anger is dangerous, and it stirs up something in us that is neither good nor holy. Jesus even likens ‘anger’ to ‘murder’ in Matthew 5:21-22.

Emotions, while they can be very tough, are meant to teach us that something in our life needs attention. When we let our emotions form our actions instead of INform them, they can drive everything else out, including the love of Jesus. ❤️

Examine where you may have anger in your life or with someone specifically that you may need to pray for God to help heal!

“If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:46-48 (NLT)

Yesterday we continued our series ‘Losing My Religion,’ with a message from Pastor Isaiah about loving our enemies. This can be a super hard thing to do, especially in this day + age, when our nation is so divided right now.

Jesus compares loving your enemy to loving a corrupt tax collector. Do you have a figure or person in your life who you would consider your version of a ‘corrupt tax collector’? Jesus challenges us to show kindness + love to those that don’t do the same for us. When we do this, we can work towards being peacemakers, practice the perfect love of Christ, and have others experience His love + perfection.

It’s week four of our current series, Losing My Religion, and this week’s message focused on serving others, in alignment with our Serve Day that happened on Saturday (if you missed our recap Reel, check it out on our social media!).

“No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:16 (NLT).

Do our lives reflect the kingdom of God? What are we producing in the world? Every time we have an opportunity to do good, we are expanding the kingdom and Christ is being manifested through our lives. Anyone who interacts with us should experience the grace of God.

Let’s set our love, faith, and service free. Our lives should look a little more like Jesus’s life everyday. Our lives should inspire hope in others.

We are in week three of our current series, Losing My Religion! This week, we heard a message challenging us to define how we are following Jesus.

“To follow Jesus means to worship him exclusively. This is at the heart of Jesus’s ministry on earth. As he told the woman at the well, the Father is seeking true worshipers — not faux worshipers, but true worshipers — those who worship him in spirit and truth .” Jonathan Parnell

When it comes to Jesus, are you a fan? A critic? Or a follower? A disciple of Jesus is a worshiper, a servant, and a witness. A disciple for Jesus loves others, and loves others deeply, even when it’s hard. Jesus gave up everything, so why should we do any less?

“And I gave them my Sabbath days of rest as a sign between them and me. It was to remind them that I am the Lord, who has set them apart to be holy.” Ezekiel 20:12 (NLT)

On Sunday, we continued talking about the Sabbath Day with a message from John Gilmore in our current series, Losing My Religion.

The Pharisees strictly followed the laws of the Sabbath, so when they saw Jesus and His disciples “harvesting” grain on the Sabbath, they accused Him of breaking the law.

The truth of the Sabbath Day is yes, it was given to the people by God as a command, but it was also a GIFT from God and an opportunity for connection in Him. When Jesus came along, He further defined the Sabbath for the people, who felt they could never measure up or follow all of the laws.

Jesus is our Sabbath. We find true rest and salvation in Jesus, our Sabbath.

This week, we kicked off a new series, Losing My Religion, with Pastor Shannon, who shared the story of Jesus healing a man on the Sabbath Day.

Religious leaders were upset with Jesus when he healed a man on the holy day, not knowing He was the Messiah, and only thinking of scripture and the laws of God.

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.” John 5:39-40

We don’t want to be so focused on scripture and following the commandments (i.e. the “rules”) that we miss out on the miracle of Jesus, God’s mission for us, or the Messiah that we get the privilege of knowing. These are the things that make our life beautiful + special. This is God’s will for us!

Yesterday was Father’s Day! We know this can be hard for some people, so Pastor Jerry began our Sunday by leading us in prayer for all those who struggle.

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 (NLT)

As humans, we are hopelessly flawed + broken, shattered because of sin, and we can live out of those hurt + broken places. When we do, we cause damage + hurt to the world around us, including our children.

But if we understand who God is to us and the world, we can provide our children with a deeper meaning to tap into. We can provide them with a balance between truth and love, dependence and self-reliance.

“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)

This week, we wrapped up our current series, Authority, with a beautiful message from Pastor Isaiah about authority over our hearts. Matthew, a greedy tax collector who betrayed his people, was asked by Jesus to follow Him despite his wrongdoings.

The truth is our hearts struggle with sin. We, as humans, make mistakes, and will continue to do so, but thanks to Jesus, we have the power to say NO to temptations. We can have strength and peace in our hearts thanks to Jesus, if we accept the gift that He is for us.

“Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”” Matthew 8:23-25

Yesterday, Michael Larson had us hit the ground running as we continued our current series with a message about Authority over Nature. We reviewed Matthew 8:23-27 in detail, and were challenged to examine our own faith in times of fear.

“Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!””Matthew 26:27

We, too, live in fear. It seems like every day, there is always more + more things to fear in life. Our go-to counteract is to bring it to God. But do we really have faith? Do we treat Jesus like the absolute authority in our lives, during our own storms? Or do we have lack of faith like the disciples did during the chaos of the storm?

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10 (NLT)

Yesterday we continued our new series, Authority, with a powerful message from Pastor Shannon about authority over Satan. Satan thinks he has authority over us and Jesus, but he does not. He is always working his hardest to take us down, and there may be places where we have allowed Satan to enter in our lives.

The good news is we don’t have to succumb to Satan’s schemes and lies because he is already defeated by Christ. We may forget this at times, but there is nothing he can do that God can’t make right. In Christ, we have all of the weapons we need to fight against Satan.

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God?” (1 Corinthians 19)(NLT).

This week, we kicked off our new series, Authority, by examining God’s authority over our human bodies. Pastor Jerry shared two stories from scripture as well as a personal story, about healing + miracles of the body.

If God has the capacity to heal us from ailments + illnesses, then that means He is Lord over our bodies, and is the Lord of our bodies no matter what condition we are in. In what areas are we struggling to give our body completely over to the Lord?
