In this Sunday's Gospel from Matthew 16:21-27 Jesus tells his apostles that they must be prepared to take up their cross to follow Him. Taking up one's cross looks different for each of us. For some it may be literal physical suffering, for others it may be the stress of financial uncertainty, for others is it the heartbreak of watching those they love go through a difficult time, still others suffer a longing to be loved.
No matter how we suffer Jesus invites us to join our suffering to His, to be united with him even in our difficulties. His unfathomable love for us offers us consolation that is priceless. In his company we can rest assured that we have found someone who understands the complexities of our human hearts and loves us anyway.

Have you been feeling drawn to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through the Catholic Church? Those interested in becoming Catholic and adults who were baptized Catholic who are seeking to receive first communion and confirmation are invited to join us beginning September 1st for weekly classes in preparation for the Easter Sacraments. We will have two sessions to choose from, Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM, and Thursday afternoons at 12:30 both will be held in the Parish Center. In today's Gospel (Matthew 16:13-20) Jesus asks His apostles who they believe Him to be. It is a question each of us as followers of Jesus Christ need to answer at some point in our journey of faith because who we believe Him to be defines our relationship with Him and informs how we interact with the world around us.
We invite you to share your response to His question with us today. "Who do you say that I am?"

If you are interested in learning more about becoming Catholic or were Baptized Catholic but never received your First Communion and Confirmation we invite you to drop in at our open house in the Parish Center this Sunday August 23rd anytime between 9 AM and Noon to ask your questions and learn more about the process of preparing to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
