Join us in remembrance and prayer this Memorial Day.

Remember, mourn and give thanks for those in the military who gave their lives for justice, peace and the freedom of our country and all nations. Pray for the safety of those currently serving in the military and for the well-being of their families. —Prayer Ventures

Today is Pentecost.

O God, on this day you open the hearts of your faithful people by sending into us your Holy Spirit. Direct us by the light of that Spirit, that we may have a right judgment in all things and rejoice at all times in your peace, through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. —Bread for the Day

Sunday to Monday Connection- Two men in white robes stood by them (the disciples). They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” Acts 1:10b-11

Expectation Sunday
We have likely heard the title “Good Shepherded Sunday.” On the Fourth Sunday of Easter our gospel readings shift from stories of the resurrection to the story of Jesus, the “Good Shepherd.”

You may have heard of “Holy Humor Sunday.” The title isn’t used often, the Second Sunday of Easter is sometimes called “Holy Humor Sunday” as Thomas seems to think the joke is on him as he doubts before coming to believe.

While you may have heard of these two titles, have you ever heard of “Expectation Sunday?” Chances are you haven’t. I don’t hear it much either. Regardless, this past weekend is sometimes called “Expectation Sunday” as we live in this time between the Ascension and Pentecost. With the Disciples we are filled with hope and expectation waiting for the coming of Christ. With the Disciples we have hope and the expectation that the power of the Holy Spirit will continue to move and burn within our lives. For all of this, the title seems appropriate as we wait expectantly for all of these things and more as we draw ever closer to that great and glorious day.

Blessings,
Pastor Bailey
