Sunday was our free day. Father Neil concelebrated the 6:30 PM Vigil Mass at St. Mary of the Annunciation and Deacon Jim served at the 9:00 Mass Sunday Morning. On Monday morning, we departed Inverness for Edinburgh and made stops at Balmoral Castle, the summer retreat of the Royal Family, and St. Andrews, the birthplace of golf. We toured the ruins of St. Andrews Castle and Cathedral.

Pilgrimage To Scotland & Iona - Saturday

Today the weather was better. We departed Ft. William in the morning. We were able to pose for a group photo in front of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Great Britain, while we were visiting the British Commando Memorial. From there, we made our way north along Loch Ness in search of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, but came away disappointed. We continued north to Inverness and spent time at the Culloden Battlefield where Bonnie Prince Charles and 1,500 Jacobite followers were defeated by the English on April 16, 1647 resulting in Great Britain remaining a Protestant country. We finished our day arriving at the Columba Hotel in Inverness, can’t get any better than that, which will serve as our base for the next 2 days.

St. Columba Prayer:

Lord, we thank you for our great patron St. Columba. Teach us to emulate his great works of charity and reconciliation so we too can show love and respect for others, especially the sick, the poor, and the hungry. Instill his great courage and missionary spirit in us so that we may become real missionaries among our own people and grow daily in faith and holiness. Amen.
