Imagine a list titled: “Things Jesus Isn’t Allowed to Touch in My Life.”

The sermon challenged us with a powerful truth:

That list should stay empty.

The gospel isn’t simply an insurance policy for eternity. It’s an invitation to surrender every corner of life to Christ.

Because every area Jesus touches, He transforms.

And every relationship surrendered to Jesus becomes a display of Jesus.

Quick question:
What area of your life is hardest to let Jesus lead?

Your relationships?
Your parenting?
Your work?
Your finances?
Your future?

Most of us are comfortable having Jesus in our lives. We’re less comfortable letting Him rule them.

But there is not one area of life that surrendering to Christ makes worse. Every area Jesus touches, He transforms.

To be a person of authority, you must first be a person under authority. And every relationship surrendered to Jesus becomes a display of Jesus.

We spend a lot of time trying to fix relationships externally.

Better communication.
Better boundaries.
Better systems.

But what if the real issue is internal?

The Bible says selfishness bends us inward, toward our comfort, our control, and our preferences.

And honestly, most of us know exactly what that feels like.

The radical claim of Christianity is not that people are naturally good.

It’s that grace can transform selfish people into sacrificial people.

That’s the kind of love Jesus demonstrated.
And maybe that’s the kind of love our relationships are starving for.

Culture says marriage exists to make us happy, to live out our happily-ever-after.

Scripture says marriage exists to make the gospel visible.

This week, we walked through Ephesians 5 and saw that marriage is ultimately about:
➡️ submission over selfishness
➡️ sacrifice over control, and
➡️ God’s glory over personal comfort

When Christ becomes the center of a home, grace changes everything.

Not because the people are perfect. But because Jesus is faithful.

Most marriage conflicts are not ultimately about dishes, schedules, money, or communication.

Underneath all of it is a deeper battle:
“My kingdom or God’s kingdom?”
“My way or God’s way?”

Marriage reveals selfishness.
But the gospel transforms selfish people into covenant people.

People who:
• forgive instead of keeping score
• serve instead of demanding
• sacrifice instead of controlling
• stay instead of running

Christian marriage is a living picture of the gospel.

And when two imperfect people stop fighting for control and start surrendering to Jesus, the home becomes a visible picture of grace.

Today, we honor those whose lives were marked by sacrifice, courage, and a willingness to serve others above themselves.

As we remember their sacrifice, may we be drawn more deeply into the love of Christ, growing each day in humility, compassion, courage, and a Christlike love for others, friend and foe alike.

Some things stay powerful because they stay hidden.

Hidden bitterness.
Hidden addiction.
Hidden compromise.
Hidden sin.

Ephesians 5 reminds us that darkness loses power when light tells the truth.

And maybe that’s why we sometimes resist the light: exposure feels uncomfortable.

But God never exposes to destroy; He exposes to restore.

“Awake, O sleeper…and Christ will shine on you.”

Freedom begins where honesty starts.
