Dear QJC Family,
This Shabbat, in conjunction with UJA-Federation and the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, we are hosting Civic Engagement Shabbat.
On Shabbos morning, at the end of davening, we will have the privilege of hearing remarks from Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi.
I urge everyone who is able to attend to come to demonstrate our presence and engagement with our elected officials.
Civic Engagement Shabbat is an initiative designed to build vital bridges between New York’s Jewish communities and our local leaders. Synagogues are invited to host elected officials for a Shabbat of hospitality, underscoring our significant presence in the civic fabric of the city.
By opening our doors to elected officials, we foster the relationships necessary to advocate for our needs while demonstrating the vibrancy of Jewish life in New York. We also educate our communities on the importance of primary voting and other civic activities.
To be very clear, while the assemblyman is running for office in the June primaries, this is not a campaign speech; we are engaging with him as our current elected official.
I apologize for the late notice, as the details of this were being ironed out until this morning.
Please join me tomorrow as we welcome Assemblyman Hevesi!
Shabbat Shalom,
Judah Kerbel
Rabbi, Queens Jewish Center
