This month we held our annual Community Celebration at which we presented our Community Celebration Award Winners for 2026.
𝑨𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒊𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒑𝒔 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝑶𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒓 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒛 𝑾𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒏
AmeriCorps is an opportunity for people to give a year of service to their community. A number of changes at the federal level meant that last year was incredibly challenging for AmeriCorps programs across the country. Despite those challenges, AmeriCorps remains an integral part of OUR community, thanks to the support of our local partners. This year’s AmeriCorps Partner Spotlight Award went to Officer Martez Warren. Over the years, The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety has taken on many Michigan's AmeriCorps members, making our public spaces safer by fighting blight and supporting neighborhood groups and residents. As an AmeriCorps supervisor, Officer Martez Warren has continued the tradition. He’s been an exceptional mentor – recognizing and nurturing talent, providing encouragement, and giving opportunities to people who may have been overlooked. Many know “Officer” Warren as “Pastor” Warren (Liberation Church- A Without Walls Ministry), and his commitment to service and the community is obvious whether he’s on or off the clock.
