This season of teshuvah ("return" / repentance) teaches us that brokenness and repair are facts of life that we all must face.

The question we are called to explore: Can we navigate these with grace, honesty and authenticity? ❤️‍🩹

Thank you to Matt K for leading a mosaic-making session at our Shabbaton, enabling us to reflect on these themes while engaging in hiddur mitzvah (the beautification of our ritual practice/objects) for our challah plate!

60+ T'chiyahniks are headed west for a weekend Shabbaton of prayer, play and preparation for the High Holidays! 🌊🎶🏕️

As a result, there will be no Shabbat services at FUMC this weekend. (The Shabbaton services will not be livestreamed – sorry!)

For a local option, check out our friends at the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue, who will meet for Shabbat morning services, Tot Shabbat & Kids Kehillah. 🙌 Shabbat shalom!

("Fabrengen" is Yiddish for "getting together," in a celebratory gathering.)

Tisha b'Av, the commemoration of the collective grief and resilience of the Jewish people, begins tonight at sundown.

We invite you to join us tomorrow, July 23 at 1 PM for as we tune in to this online event with Rabbi Ilana Sumka, hosted by The Shalom Center. RSVP at the link below!

Rabbi Sumka was our guide for our congregational trip to Palestine/Israel in the summer of 2023 with her organization, Shleimut.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Tisha b’Av is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. From our personal heartaches to our collective anguish for all we have lost and are losing, we will lament in an authentic and shared practice of naming our sorrows - in writing and in spoken word. But Tisha b’Av is also the day, we’re told, when Moshiach / the messianic era is born. What forms of Moshiachkeit, liberation, and redemption are being born right now and how might our grief serve as a catalyst for their and our redemption? We hope to see you on this auspicious day, as we lean into embodied practice and communal ceremony.
