Progressive, participatory & whole-heartedly inclusive Jewish community. Reconstructing Judaism 🌱

We are a progressive, participatory, and wholeheartedly inclusive Jewish community in Metro Detroit. Our Judaism is expansive and constantly evolving - a living tradition that both shapes us and is shaped by us. Through shared ritual, study, and spiritual practice, we pursue personal growth, collective resilience, and a more just world. We are affiliated with Reconstructing Judaism (the Reconstructionist movement) and the Synagogues Rising network.

"The charge of dual loyalty has been thrown at Jews for generations," says Rabbi Alana Alpert, of Ferndale’s Congregation T’chiyah. "When we hear it aimed at our Muslim neighbors we recognize it. And we will not let it be used against anyone."

Is Halloween a Jewish holiday? 🎃 Maybe not in its origins, but we do have our share of spooky traditions to uplift during this calendrical conjunction. (Looking at you, Elijah!)

Come on out next Saturday for an evening of sweets and sweetness as we bask in the border of sacred and ordinary – on the day when it's said "the veil [between worlds] is thin!" 🧙‍♀️

On Sunday, our Kehillah Committee (dedicated to facilitating member-to-member connections) organized a hike + schmooze featuring apple c***r and donuts. Community-building can be delicious!

📅 Mark your calendar for future Kehillah happenings, which are great opportunities to build friendships in between services!

We're excited to play a role in this series of events featuring renowned journalist Peter Beinart!

On Tuesday evening, Oct 20, join us off-campus at St. Matthew's & St. Joseph's Episcopal Church Detroit for a dialogue between Peter and our own Andy Levin. ✌️

Our friends at the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue are hosting our friend Aly Halpert for Shabbat – so we figured we'd join the party!

Rather than holding services at FUMC this weekend, we will head downtown to join IADS. Learn more & RSVP at the Jlive - Detroit link below.

(Check out slide 3 for a photo of Aly at T'chiyah when she visited in 2022 with Arielle Korman and Batya Levine – courtesy of a zoom attendee!)

Moadim L'Simcha! ✨ This festive time has surely been a portal towards joy for us... Thank you to our fabulous Avodah Committee for arranging our first-ever Sukkot Sleepover/Shabbaton, housed at Huckleberry Gardens in Detroit! 🌿 🍋 ⛺

Davening/prayer, learning (pictured: Kelsie leading a session on the basics of sofrut/Hebrew calligraphy), lashev-ing ba-sukkah, and - thanks to Julie R - llamas!

What a delightful way to help the insights of Yom Kippur integrate into our bodies!
