What a Weekend of Intergenerational Ministry!

This past weekend, we had the joy of seeing children, youth, and adults learning, worshiping, serving, and growing together.
Saturday brought Emotional Messy Church, where 30 people joined us as we explored our emotions and learned the simple but powerful truth: “Whatever I’m feeling, I can bring it to God.” We even discovered that Jesus had big feelings too!

On Sunday, we gathered for our 5th Sunday Together Breakfast, hosted by Children’s, Youth, and Adults in Action. We shared a potluck breakfast, studied Scripture together, and were blessed to have our youth lead us in some of our favorite hymns. A special thank-you to Caroline and Ethan for leading our music!
We then had an interactive retelling of Noah’s Ark, bringing generations together to experience the story in a fun and meaningful way. None of these events happen without the many people who give their time and talents, from planning and setup to meals, music, teaching, and welcoming others. Thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend possible!

I am so proud of our congregation for supporting and investing in
intergenerational ministry. Weekends like this give me hope for what the church can be, and excitement for where we are going.

What a day! 😊😢😡😨 We had a wonderful time exploring our BIG feelings, getting creative, playing games, singing, sharing a meal, and discovering that God is with us through every emotion! 🙏❤️

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out today and made Emotions Messy Church such a special time of fun, fellowship, and faith. We loved seeing so many familiar faces and welcoming new ones! 🥰

Fall for You

Earlier this week, I was walking down Lee Street when out of nowhere, I completely face-planted. I’m talking a trip-on-air, stuff-flies-everywhere kind of fall. And just my luck, there were witnesses.

I immediately did the mental math of how likely it was that one of the people who saw me fall flat on my face would have some connection with the church. I reasoned that I was new here, so maybe there was less of a chance of being recognized.

In a weird way, I thought that I had gotten away with it (as if falling down was some sort of crime I was worried about being convicted for). But then, a car circled back and the woman driving asked if I needed a ride. In that moment, all I wanted was to save face. To get back up like nothing had even happened. So I thanked her, but declined, and walked the final minute towards my destination.

Then, as I waited for coffee, there she was in line behind me. Of course. We laughed about it, realized that she did in fact have a connection to the church, and I was overcome by the strangest feeling.

I felt known. Like God could see that I was trying to keep it all together and put my best foot forward (in this case, the one that was not broken!), but that I just needed to be stopped in my tracks. To look down at my scraped knee and slight limp and acknowledge that I need help.

I’m not saying God made me fall—in fact, the culprit is more likely my longstanding clumsiness and a pair of shoes I probably need to toss out. But I do think God uses moments like this to remind us to accept help. To not be afraid of stumbling around a bit as we find our way. To let people see us when we’re not at our best.

So even though I would have much rather fallen in secret—or better yet, not fallen at all—I can’t help but laugh at how embarrassment is often our best teacher. May we stay open enough to learn from it.

For 22 years, a remarkable interfaith effort has made sure no Fayette County child goes without lunch over the summer. Volunteers from 19 faith groups and several community organizations prepare, pack, and deliver sack lunches each weekday for eight weeks to local students on the free and reduced lunch program. This past summer, more than 400 volunteers provided nearly 15,000 lunches - a true labor of love recently celebrated at an interfaith luncheon honoring everyone involved.
