Our message yesterday was on Matthew 14:22-33. The Disciples found themselves in a terrifying situation, in a boat, far from land, battered by heavy waves and wind. And Jesus appeared in the middle of the storm and was there with them. Even through the storms of life, God never leaves us stranded. He is right there in the waves with us, offering His hand, and telling us to have courage and do not be afraid.

Wishing all our students, teachers, and all school staff heading back to school a safe and blessed school year! Here is our Blessing of the Backpacks from worship yesterday.

“God, bless this school year, this new season, this chance to discover the world anew. We sense the anticipation of something about to happen, of all our preparation and worry and excitement for new friendships and challenges and opportunities.

God, bless these backpacks, these symbols of fresh beginning. And bless every kid who carries their heavy load, as all the new questions rise up in their hearts and minds.

God, bless this new environment and everyone in it. The teachers and professors who ready their classrooms, creating opportunities for learning and belonging. The administrators and staff as they stretch hearts and minds, and feel their own stretching too. The parents and caregivers who carry the weight of loving, protecting, and raising these kids.

God, bless all who begin this journey of a new year. With every step they take, may they feel your presence and hear you say, “I love you. I am with you. You are loved.”

Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done.”

Thank you to our youth for sharing their mission trip stories today during worship, stories of good works in communities, helping those in need, and growing in faith and friendships. Thank you to our youth sponsors for pouring into these young people and loving and leading them as they grow in their faith and grow as people. And a big thank you to our congregation who always supports them, financially and through love and prayer. We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what they do next!
