Over night, the United States began yet another unauthorized attack on a sovereign nation. As the seemingly inevitable conclusion of weeks of preparation that included two Navy aircraft carriers, our government has launched attacks by plane and missiles on Iran. These included the intentional targeting of the compound of Iran' supreme leader. As of 2:45pm EST on the 28th, it is being reported that Ali Khamenei has been killed.
United States law makes it a crime to threaten, much less kill, the leader of a foreign nation (18 USC §112). There are also multiple Executive Orders that specifically forbid the assassination of foreign leaders. Add this to the growing list of illegal actions that have been taken in recent months; a list that already includes murdering shipwrecked survivors of an attack on a boat, unjustified federalization of the National Guard of multiple states, and the invasion of Venezuela to obtain control of that nation's oil resources.
Quaker House's mission says that we are a "manifestation of the Friends' Peace Testimony." One of the most frequently quoted lines that explains this Testimony says "all bloody principles and practices we do utterly deny, with all outward wars, and strife, and fightings with outward weapons, for any end, or under any pretence whatsoever, and this is our testimony to the whole world."
It is in our witness to this testimony that Quaker House condemns the actions, past and continuing, against Iran. We "utterly deny" that there is any justification for these illegal actions, and call for the immediate withdraw of the military forces that have been moved into the area.
