It is with a saddened but grateful heart that I write this letter to you all in order to inform you that I am no longer employed as the director of the amazing youth ministry at Haymount United Methodist Church. During my 4 years serving as the youth pastor here at Haymount, I have come to know each and every teenager and their families well. The wonderful people at Haymount have become my family and the church has become a home; therefore I am extremely sad to be moving on to the next chapter of my life as I discern where my ministry abilities can be fully appreciated and strengthened. I have strived forward during these last months to be engaged as a full-time staff member, and the opportunity did not present itself. In my time as youth pastor, our group has doubled in size, the opportunities to engage in ministry together has grown substantially, and we have enjoyed several overnight trips and served in mission together on multiple occasions, locally and across state lines. Tough decisions have been made, and the writing on the wall pointed toward a new journey ahead.
I am exceedingly thankful to have had the honor and privilege to serve the church family at Haymount United Methodist for these past 4 years. The fact that each of the youth and their families have allowed me into their lives, concerts, recitals, mealtimes, and homes is something that is humbling to me and something for which I am eternally grateful. Many of you have shared that I have had a tremendous impact on your students, but your children have had a greater impact on me.
This Wednesday, January 3, will serve as our final opportunity to fellowship together with me as your Director of Youth Ministries. I invite each of the students, parents, volunteers, and all who would like to join us to come at 6:15-7:15. We will celebrate these last 4 years, laugh together, cry together, answer any questions, and enjoy these last moments before I pass the torch to Donald Warren. Donald will serve as the youth leader in the interim, while a search committee is put together and a replacement is found. I encourage you all to raise awareness of events you would like to continue, ideas that you have that can be implemented, and questions you would have for the search committee to ask any candidates.
It has been an amazing life experience to love God and strive to serve Him every day alongside Pastor Allen, the staff, the volunteers, and the families that make up Haymount youth ministries. God has worked in my life during these last 4 years and I believe I have grown and will continue to grow all the days of my life. With gratitude, I am always at your disposal. I will always be in prayer for the students and their families, and know that we have done great work together in my time at Haymount. I believe that work will continue, and look forward to being part of the work ahead. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask me at 513-307-7501, or Allen Bingham at [email protected] or 252-361-2985.
In Christ,
Drew Ellis
