SIX QUESTIONS THAT REVEAL WHAT YOU ACTUALLY LOVE

These questions touch our Bible reading, our fellowship, our prayer, our generosity, and our serving. Sit with them, because they show whether we're drifting or pulling away from our love for Jesus.

Do we still have a hunger to read God's word and discover truth?

Is there still a desire to be with other Christians, to hear His word taught, and to have fellowship with others who love Him?

Are we aware of God's presence? Do we want to talk with Him, hear Him speak, and obey His leading?

When someone else has a need and we're able to meet it, do we want to, even if it means sharing our own possessions?

Serving raises its own question. Are we seeking His direction and His plan for our lives, and obeying that plan? Are we serving because we love Him, or because it's what we've always done?

Then comes the last question. If everything we do for Christ was taken away, would we still love Jesus Christ?

Sometimes our identity gets wrapped up in what we do. Our identity needs to be in whom we belong to.

WHEN YOU CAN'T FIX IT, YOU STILL HAVE THIS

Herod had already killed James. He'd arrested Peter, and he had a plan to execute him. Political power, military power, all of it sat at his command.

The church couldn't overthrow Herod. They couldn't break Peter out of prison, and they couldn't change the political landscape.

One thing sat completely outside Herod's control, and the church had it.

Prayer. We read Scripture so fast that we jump right over the heart of this passage: while Peter was in prison, the church was praying.

Sitting around talking about the situation is what we usually do instead. Someone we know lands in trouble, so we gossip about it.

Well, we're thinking about you. Praying for you. We say the words, we move on, and nothing about the situation changes.

Complaining comes easy too. This isn't fair, we say, and the unfairness is real. The church in Acts spent that same energy on prayer.

God's character stays exactly what it is whether we pray or not. Prayer invites us to trust the God who is able to change our circumstances. So, while you're waiting on the thing you can't fix, what are you doing?
