Why You Keep Drifting From God (And How To Get Back)

We keep asking how we should be. What can we commit to this summer, and the rest of this year, that will actually align us with God?

The answer sounds simple. To align with God, we have to be connected to God.

So we have to know what God wants. We have to know what He's doing. We have to know where He's moving.

But connection isn't automatic. Even pastors drift. Even the people who teach this stuff need to come back to it.

Sometimes we just need a reminder. Sometimes we need a gentle nudge. And sometimes, honestly, we need a full-on aggressive kick in the pants to get back where God wants us.

So pause and get honest. What did this year actually look like for your faith?

What should it look like? And how do we close the gap between the two?

That gap doesn't shrink on its own. It shrinks when we get connected, stay connected, and let God do what only He can do.

The Place You Thought You Left Behind

The Israelites are on their way to the Promised Land, and they hit a dry, desolate desert.

They start to get thirsty, and they turn on Moses. Exodus 17:3 says, "Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?"

So Moses cries out to God. Exodus 17:4 says, "What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."

And God answers in verse 5: "Go out in front of the people. Take some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go."

The same staff that turned the Nile to blood. The same staff that split the Red Sea. Take it, and go.

But here's where it gets personal. Verse 6 says, "I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb."

Horeb. The same mountain where God spoke to Moses through the burning bush. The same place where God said, someday you'll come back here and worship Me.

So Moses is standing full circle, back in the very spot God promised he'd return to, and only now does he see that God was keeping His word the whole time.
