πŸ’™ During Pride Month, we reaffirm the Catholic belief that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and deserves dignity, respect and love. As a Catholic community of religious sisters, we are called to accompany one another with humility, mercy and a commitment to the Gospel, recognizing that our good God’s love extends to every person. πŸ’› Celebration Saturday: Our Saturday series highlights our 2026 Jubilarians -- women who have spent a lifetime in faithful service to our good God.

Today, we recognize Sister Sheila Palmer, a 70-year Jubilarian. https://bit.ly/4ehdmEg

Sister Sheila has an unusual vocation story! She was born in Jamaica and answered her call to religious life at 16, entering the Franciscan Missionary Sisters. She taught high school English in Jamaica for 32 years before making the difficult decision to follow her family to the United States.

Seeking a teaching congregation that valued diversity, she joined the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She taught in Connecticut and Massachusetts, where she helped integrate Black students. She later helped found the Notre Dame Education Center and taught English to students from more than 50 countries. At her 70th Jubilee in 2026, Sister Sheila remains grateful for her vocation.

β€œAt the heart of the Christian understanding of the human person lies the great biblical affirmation that men and women are created in the image and likeness (cf. Gen 1:26-27) of the Triune God. Created for relationship, every human person is planned and willed by God to enter into communion with him, with others and with creation.” -Pope Leo XIV

In recognition of the commemoration of June Pride Month, let us be united in prayer, through
the Prayer for Acceptance and Respect, that all people will be respected with the dignity each
one deserves:

Prayer for Acceptance and Respect

Loving Creator, open our hearts to see the beauty in every soul.

Teach us to listen without judgment, to speak with kindness, and to act with compassion.

Guide us all toward a world where differences are celebrated, and love is the common language we share. Amen.

Let our words build bridges, not walls, and our actions reflect the respect we wish to receive.

May we be a light that welcomes, a voice that uplifts, and a presence that reminds others they are valued.

Guide us all toward a world where differences are celebrated and love is the common language we share. Amen.
