Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who died at the hands of terrorists 25 years ago. The oldest victims were in their 80s. The youngest had not seen the world beyond the womb. Their families continue to grieve today. Let's pray for them and always remember that human life—born and unborn—is a precious gift.

Jack Grandcolas lost his wife and unborn baby on September 11, 2001. Though he never met his child face-to-face, he once said: "There was that difficulty in losing that child, which I would find later on, over the last 20 years was harder than expected.”

Maria SanPio lost her daughter, son-in-law, and unborn grandchild in the attacks. In 2004, she made this heartbreaking statement about the profound impact of that loss: “Every time I go to any store, see other babies, it’s just so hard . . . I volunteer at a hospital, but I can’t help with the youngest babies. I can’t.”

Virginia law allows children in the womb to be killed for any reason when they're about six weeks OLDER than Curtis was when he was BORN.

When discussing laws to protect unborn children, some say: "You can't legislate morality!"
But Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once observed: "While it may be true that morality cannot be legislated, behavior can be regulated. It may be true that the law cannot change the heart but it can restrain the heartless. It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me but it can keep him from lynching me and I think that is pretty important, also."
As we work to transform hearts to see unborn children as the precious gifts that they are, we should also desire laws that protect those children from being killed.
