Ten Logical Reasons for The Resurrection of Jesus
1. The Disciples Had Nothing to Gain—But Everything to Lose.
If the resurrection were fabricated, the disciples would have been promoting a lie that brought them persecution, poverty, and death—not power or prestige.
• Most of the apostles suffered martyrdom (e.g., Peter, James, Paul).
• No historical record shows any of them recanting under pressure.
Key thought: People may die for something they believe is true—but never for something they know is a lie. “We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20).

2. The Tomb Location Was Publicly Known and Verifiably Empty
Jesus was buried in the prominent tomb of Joseph of Arimathea—a member of the Sanhedrin. This meant:
• The location was well known to both followers and enemies.
• If the body were still there, authorities could have easily displayed it to crush Christianity.
Instead, the earliest explanation from opponents was not “He’s still dead,” but: “His disciples came by night and stole Him away…” (Matthew 28:13)
Key thought: Even enemies admitted the tomb was empty—they only argued about how it happened.

3. The Stone and the Roman Guard
• The tomb was sealed with a large stone (Matthew 27:60)
• Guarded by Roman soldiers (Matthew 27:65–66)
• Breaking a Roman seal was a serious offense
Key thought: It is highly improbable that frightened disciples, mostly fishermen, overpowered trained Roman guards and secretly staged a theft of a body and hid it during the busiest festival of the Jewish year. There's no record of anyone making any effort to find the missing body.

4. The First Witnesses Were Women (An Illogical Fabrication)
All four Gospels record that women were the first to discover the empty tomb. (Luke 24:22–23) In first-century Jewish culture:
• Women’s testimony was often considered legally weak or inadmissible.
• A fabricated story would likely have chosen respected male witnesses.
Key thought: This detail strongly suggests authenticity rather than invention.
“Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb” (Matthew 28:1).

5. Jesus Made Multiple Eyewitness Appearances
Jesus appeared to many individuals and groups:
• Mary Magdalene
• The apostles
• Disciples on road to Emmaus
• Over 500 people at once (1 Corinthians 15:6)
Key thought: Hallucinations do not occur simultaneously to large groups.
“He was seen by over five hundred…” (1 Corinthians 15:6).

6. The Disciples Were Transformed Overnight
Before the resurrection:
• They fled in fear (Mark 14:50)
• Peter denied Jesus three times
After the resurrection:
• They boldly preached in Jerusalem—the very city where Jesus was crucified (Acts 4:31).
• They faced flogging, imprisonment and death with courage
What explains such a dramatic change?
Key thought: Something powerful and convincing happened that turned frightened men into fearless witnesses.
“With great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection…” (Acts 4:33).

7. The Rapid Rise of the Early Church Defies Explanation Without It
The Christian movement began:
• In Jerusalem, where Jesus was executed
• Within weeks of His death
• Under intense opposition from the most powerful religious authorities
And yet:
• Thousands believed almost immediately (Acts 2:41)
• The message centered on a risen Savior, not just a moral teacher
If the resurrection were false:
• It could have been easily dis-proven at the source
Key thought: The explosive growth of Christianity in hostile territory points to a compelling, real event.

8. The Conversion of Skeptics
Two notable skeptics were transformed:
• James, Jesus’ brother — initially unbelieving
• Paul the Apostle — rabid persecutor of Christians
Both became bold leaders after claiming to see the risen Christ.
Key thought: Dramatic conversions demand a powerful cause.
1 Corinthians 15:7–8

9. Some argue Jesus never actually died on the cross but only fainted
• This is an absurd charge when you consider a Roman soldier thrust a spear in Christ side bringing forth a profusion of blood and water.
• The witnessing soldiers needed to guarantee he had been executed.
• Then they bound his body, face to foot with ointment and cloth which would have made breathing impossible between Friday evening and Sunday morning. (John 19:39–40)
• The disciples were so thoroughly convinced that he had died when He later appeared in the upper room, they thought it was a ghost.
"Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit" (Luke 24:36–37).

10. The Early Message Was Immediate and Consistent
• Preached within weeks of the crucifixion
• Centered clearly on the resurrection
• No evidence of gradual legend development
“This Jesus God has raised up…”(Acts 2:32).
Powerful Summary Thought: Legends take time; this message was immediate. The resurrection account is not built on one piece of evidence—but a convergence of unlikely details:
• A known tomb… empty
• Fearful men… transformed
• Weak witnesses… chosen
• A dangerous message… boldly proclaimed
• Missing Body never recovered
All pointing to one conclusion:
“He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.” (Matthew 28:6)

Why do you look for the dead among the living?? He is not here... He is risen! Thank you, Jesus!

“Hosanna!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
The King of Israel!” - John 12:13

Bible Readings: Matthew 21:1-11; John 12:12-19

Family Discussion Questions:

Kids: If you were in the crowd, what would you shout to Jesus? How can we “wave our palms” and praise Him today (maybe make paper palm leaves)?
Everyone: Why did Jesus choose a humble donkey instead of a warhorse? What does this teach us about true kingship?
Teens/Adults: The people expected an earthly king—how does Jesus’ entry point us to His heavenly kingdom and His soon second coming?
How can our family show Jesus we accept Him as King this week?

"Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man (Jesus) is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; 39 and by Him (Jesus) everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses." Acts 13:38-39.

Rest in His salvation today, He will see you through!
