In this passage, Peter exhorts husbands to treat their wives with knowledge, according to the will of God. Women are physically weaker, and the wise husband considers the biological difference between his wife and him in the
relationship. Husbands should honor their wives because they are coheirs of the eschatological gift of life. Both husbands and wives can expect the same heavenly destiny. The seriousness of bestowing honor upon one's wife is evident, in that husbands who refuse to do so will find that their prayers are hindered.

So far, we have seen that regarding to civil government, Christians should be subject to legitimate government authority (2:13-17). Regarding the employer and employee relationship, servants should be subject to their masters, even patiently enduring unjust treatment, following Christ's example (2:18-25).

In this passage, regarding marriage, wives should be subject to their husbands - even unbelieving husbands - some of whom will trust in Christ when they see their wives' godly behavior. In all circumstances of life, a wife should exemplify Sarah's example of a 'gentle and quiet spirit' that is the primary source of her beauty, and she should continue trusting in God without fear (3:1-6).

We live in a world of fallen sinners, and that includes fallen leaders who are in authority over us. Despite this, we are to honor those in authority over us -- even the bad ones. Christians have obligations to the state because the civil government itself a means that God uses for the welfare of mankind. Yet, believers obligations to God and to the brotherhood are higher.

As ‘sojourners and exiles’, Christian believers have two responsibilities. First, we need to guard against following the sinful desires characteristic of this world, which is not their home. Second, we also need to act honorably in the midst of critical—and even hostile—unbelievers, so that some of those unbelievers may observe the good works of these Christians and as a result will also be saved and glorify God.

When you hear the word "temple," what is the first thought that comes to your mind?
Maybe the first thought you have is of a place in the far east where people worship pagan gods. If you are a Christian, maybe the first thought is Solomon's temple --which is where the presence of God dwelt with his people. But it seems that the apostle Peter would have "the local church, which I must be a part of" as the first thought that comes to your mind.

1 Peter 2:4-10

When enduring suffering and difficulty, we tend to have more difficulty loving one another. Therefore, when Peter speaks to churches that are enduring persecution --he reminds them to love one another, tervently. The word that is translated as
"fervent" in our English Bibles comes from the Greek word that means "stretch." So, Peter exhorts them to stretch themselves
to love each other, but also gives them a source of nourishment for all this extra effort -- the word of God that nourishes.

1 Peter 1:21-2:3

Therefore, when Peter speaks to churches that are enduring persecution -- he reminds them to love one another, fervently. How do suffering saints stay on course when the winds and waves of this world crash against them? What does Peter tell the dispersed saints when they are enduring persecution? He tells them to set their hope on Jesus when he comes back.
But how do we do this?

1 Peter 1: 13-21

How do suffering saints stay on course when the winds and waves of this world crash against them? What does Peter tell the dispersed saints when they are enduring persecution? He tells them to set their hope on Jesus when he comes back. But how do we do this?

Have you ever had a possession of your which you are unaware of the value of it? It seems like something old, that few people even know about or even have an interest in. But you are curious to know the value of it? This is where appraisers lend their expertise to help you find the true value of something. In 1 Peter 1:10-12, value of the Christian faith might be questioned by suffering and persecuted saints, but Peter sends these Christians three groups of appraisers: prophets, preachers, and angels. These groups attest to the value of the Christian faith.
