First United Methodist Church of Elgin strives to be an open and welcoming congregation, while developing relationships with the broader community in order to show the love of Jesus Christ to others. The United Methodist Church is known for having “open hearts, open minds, and open doors”. We recognize that part of that “open-ness” is not waiting for others to find us, but for us to be intentional in reaching out to help meet the needs of a hurting world. While FUMC Elgin endeavors to find new life in Christ daily, we are also thankful for our rich 130+ year history in Elgin. We offer traditional and contemporary worship services, as well as a communion service (open to all) every Sunday. Our mid-week worship service on Wednesday evenings is also a communion service open to all. We are one part of the Body of Christ, and desire to reach upward and outward in ministry and growth. You are welcome to rest with us, or serve with us, depending on your present situation or need.

The Apostle Paul, and his faithful companions, Silas and Timothy, were not welcome in many of the places they felt called to visit. And sometimes, after they left, rumors flew, making people think they were charlatans. Paul wrote his letter to the church in Thessalonica to tell them the word of God shared with them was true, and that Faithful Service was required of all who followed Jesus. So....

Exactly what is Faithful Service? Is it showing up? is it taking over when someone else isn't performing up to your standards?
The Apostle Paul had something to say about Faithful Service and what it requires of us, if we are to serve faithfully. We're going to be working out of 1 Thessalonians 2:1-8 on 10/25 @ 11:00.

We can be sure that at least of our young adult boxes arrived today and made someone’s day! Reminding our young adults that their church family loves and cares for them matters. This is Nathan Rocha’s note to us:
If you are interested in making a handmade valentine for one of our away from home “kids”, you have until February 7th to be creative and deliver it to the pastor.

It’s very important to have great memories of high school. And if you don’t have great memories of YOUR time in high school, make great memories serving the kids at someone else’s high school. Tonight, ELGIN FIRST UMC made some fun memories feeding the band and the choir at Elgin High School, before they had to suit up for HOMECOMING 2026.
A special thanks to Allyson and Russell Hicks, Melissa and Randy Swenson, Roxanne Wolfe, Judy Henry and Julie Joesel, for their generous gifts of time spent shopping, doing math, assembling hot dogs, loading and toting food and cleaning up.
It was so much fun!
So we are going to do it again November 6, for Senior Night.
