⚪️ Feast of Saint Maximilian Kolbe ⚪️

August 14

Today we honor Saint Maximilian Kolbe, Franciscan priest, missionary, Marian devotee, and martyr of charity.

In the darkness of Auschwitz, Fr. Kolbe offered his own life in place of another prisoner, living out the words of Our Lord:

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
— John 15:13

His final sacrifice was not simply an act of courage—it was the culmination of a life completely given to Christ and the Immaculate Virgin.

May St. Maximilian teach us to love without counting the cost, to remain faithful in suffering, and to give ourselves generously for the sake of others.

Saint Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us.
Immaculata, obtain for us the grace to belong entirely to Christ.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Con toda humildad les pido sus oraciones por todos los habitantes de Manizales, Colombia. Tenemos a nuestro propio Obispo, Fray Juan de Jesús Torres Pereira, quien vive y ejerce su ministerio en esta misma ciudad de Manizales. Él y su familia se encuentran a salvo. Fray Pereira trabaja estrechamente como capellán en los hospitales y está laborando incansablemente para ayudar en medio de esta tragedia. Les ruego que unamos nuestras oraciones por Fray Pereira y por todos los afectados.

La festividad de Santa Clara de mañana será celebrada de manera especial por el Obispo Fray Juan de Jesús Torres Pereira, por los demás frailes y por todas las personas afectadas. ¡Que el Señor conceda al Obispo Pereira la fortaleza necesaria para atender a todos los que sufren y están en necesidad!

With all humility, I ask for your prayers for all the people of Manizales, Colombia. We have our own Bishop, Fray Juan de Jesús Torres Pereira, who lives and carries out his ministry in the very city of Manizales. He and his family are safe. Fray Pereira works closely as a hospital chaplain and is laboring tirelessly to help in the midst of this tragedy. I ask that we unite our prayers for Fray Pereira and for all those who have been affected.

Tomorrow’s Feast of St. Clare will be celebrated in a special way for Bishop Fray Juan de Jesús Torres Pereira, the other friars, and all those who have been affected. May the Lord grant Bishop Pereira the strength he needs to minister to all who are suffering and in need!
