SWEET BABY GIRL
Dave and Debbie Parnell announce the birth of great granddaughter, Blakley May. Her parents are
Jaden & Karlie Lee. Brother Brooks helped welcome her home. Great-grandpa is Leonard Hawk.

L: Since we are justified by faith,
C: we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
L: through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.
C: And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
L: and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us,
C: because God’s love has been poured into our hearts
L: through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
C: In the shadow of God’s peace,
L: in the powerful name of Jesus,
C: and with the hope of the Holy Spirit, let us worship God.
—based on Romans 5:1-5, NRSV

HYMN 8 Come, Thou Almighty King
Come Thou Almighty King, Help us Thy name to sing; Help us to praise. Father all glorious, O’er all victorious, Come, and reign over us, Ancient of Days.

Come, Thou Incarnate Word, Gird on Thy mighty sword; Our prayer attend. Come, and Thy people bless, And give Thy word success, Spirit of holiness, On us descend.

Come, Holy Comforter, Thy sacred witness bear In this glad hour. Thou, who almighty art, Now rule in every heart, And ne’er from us depart, Spirit of pow’r.

To Thee, great one in Three, Eternal praises be, Hence evermore; Thy sov’reign majesty May we in glory see, And to eternity Love and adore.

HYMN 191 Father, I Adore You
Father, I adore You, Lay my life before You; How I love You.
Jesus, I adore You, Lay my life before You; How I love You.
Spirit, I adore You; Lay my life before You; How I love You.

2 Corinthians 13:11-13, PB 1073
11 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All God’s people here send their greetings.

*HYMN 3 Holy, Holy, Holy
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, holy holy! merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity.

Holy, holy holy! all the saints adore Thee, Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea. Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee, Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! tho’ the darkness hide Thee, Tho’ the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see. Only Thou art holy—there is none beside Thee, Perfect in pow’r , in love, in purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth, and sky, and sea. Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity.

L: We did not make the Faith.
C: No, it is making us.

C: Not any invention of any mortal.
L: Let us confess the faith of our baptism as we say:
I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come again to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

READING OF ACTS 2:1-21
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. 5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.” 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 “ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

L: Spirit of the living God, visit us again on this day of Pentecost.
C: Come, Holy Spirit.
L: Like a rushing wind that sweeps away all barriers,
C: come, Holy Spirit.
L: Like tongues of fire that set our hearts aflame,
C: come, Holy Spirit.
L: With speech that unites the Babel of our tongues,
C: come, Holy Spirit.
L: With love that overlaps the boundaries of race and nation,
C: come, Holy Spirit.
L: With power from above to make our weakness strong,
C: come, Holy Spirit. Amen.

HYMN 384 Spirit Song
O let the Son of God enfold you with His Spirit and His love; Let Him fill your heart and satisfy your soul. O let Him have the things that hold you, and His Spirit, like a dove, Will descend upon your life and make you whole.
REFRAIN:
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs. Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs.

O come and sing this song with gladness as your hearts are filled with joy; Lift your hands in sweet surrender to His name. O give Him all your tears and sadness; give Him all your years of pain, And you’ll enter into life in Jesus’ name.
REFRAIN:
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs. Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs.

L: Holy Spirit, Creator, at the beginning you hovered over the waters; you breathe life into all creatures.
C: Come into us, Holy Spirit.
L: Holy Spirit, Comforter, by you we are born again as children of God; you make us living temples of your presence; you pray within us with prayers too deep for words.
C: Come into us, Holy Spirit.
L: Holy Spirit, Lord and giver of life, you are light, you bring us light; you are goodness and the source of all goodness.
C: Come into us, Holy Spirit.
L: Holy Spirit, breath of life, you sanctify and breathe life into the whole body of the church; you dwell in each one of its members, and you will one day give new life to our mortal bodies.
C: Come into us, Holy Spirit. Amen.

*HYMN 382 Come, Holy Spirit
Come as a wisdom to children; Come as new sight to the blind. Come, Lord, as strength to my weakness; Take me: soul, body and mind.
REFRAIN:
Come, Holy Spirit, I need You; Come, sweet Spirit, I pray. Come in Your strength and Your power; Come in Your own gentle way.

Come as a rest to the weary; Come as a balm for the sore. Come as a dew to my dryness; Fill me with joy evermore.
REFRAIN:
Come, Holy Spirit, I need You; Come, sweet Spirit, I pray. Come in Your strength and Your power; Come in Your own gentle way.

Come like a spring in the desert; Come to the withered of soul. O let Your sweet healing power Touch me and make me whole.
REFRAIN:
Come, Holy Spirit, I need You; Come, sweet Spirit, I pray. Come in Your strength and Your power; Come in Your own gentle way.

READING/ PROCLAMATIONOF GOD’S WORD:
Spirit Empowered
1 Corinthians 12:3b-13; 27-31 PB 1060
3b and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. 12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues ? Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.

*HYMN 389 Spirit of the Living God
Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me. Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.

Soul of heaven, heart of God, wash over me. Soul of heaven, heart of God, wash over me. Cleanse me, teach me, hold me, reach me. Soul of heaven, heart of God, wash over me.

Holy presence, love divine, cast out my fear. Holy presence, love divine, cast out my fear. Shield me, free me, call me, lead me. Holy presence, love divine, cast out my fear.

God of wind, word, and fire, we bless your name this day for sending the light and strength of your Holy Spirit. We give you thanks for all the gifts, great and small, that have been poured out upon your children. Accept us with our gifts to be living praise and witness to your grace throughout all the earth, through Jesus Christ, who lives with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.

*HYMN 399 We Are God’s People
We are God’s people, the chosen of the Lord, Born of His Spirit, established by His Word. Our cornerstone is Christ alone, And strong in Him we stand; O let us live transparently And walk heart to heart and hand in hand.

We are God’s loved ones, the Bride of Christ, our Lord, For we have known it, the love of God outpoured. Now let us learn how to return The gift of love once given; O let us share each joy and care and live with a zeal that pleases Heav’n.

We are the Body of which the Lord is Head, Called to obey Him, now risen from the dead. He wills us be a family Diverse, yet truly one; O let us give our gifts to God And so shall His work on earth be done.

We are a Temple, the Spirit’s dwelling place, Formed in great weakness, a cup to hold God’s grace. We die alone, for on its own Each ember loses fire; Yet joined in one the flame burns on To give warmth and light and to inspire.

L: The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers.
C: Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord ? And who shall stand in his holy place?
L: Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. They will receive blessing from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their salvation. Such is the company of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
C: Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in.
L: Who is the King of glory?
C: The Lord , strong and mighty, the Lord , mighty in battle.
L: Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory?
C: The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.

HYMN 377 Alleluia! Sing to Jesus
Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! His the scepter, His the throne. Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone. Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion Thunder like a mighty flood: “Jesus out of every nation Has redeemed us by His blood.”

Alleluia! Not as orphans Are we left in sorrow now. Alleluia! He is near us; Faith believes, nor questions how. Tho’ the clouds from sight received Him When the forty days were o’er, Shall our hearts forget His promise: “I am with your evermore”?

Alleluia! Bread of Heaven, You on earth our food and stay! Alleluia! Here the sinful Flee to You from day to day. Intercessor, Friend of sinners, Earth’s Redeemer, plead for me, Where the songs of all the sinless Sweep across the crystal sea.

RESPONSIVE READING 136
L: Clap your hands, all your nations; Shout to God with cries of joy.
C: How awesome is the Lord Most High, The great King over all the earth!
L: God has ascended amid shouts of joy, The Lord amid the sounding of trumpets. Sing praises to God.
C: Sing His praise!
L: For God is the King of all the earth. God reigns over the nations. The kings of earth belong to God. He is greatly exalted. Sing to Him a psalm of praise. Clap your hands, all you nations; Shout to God with cries of joy.
C: How awesome is the Lord Most High, The great King over all the earth!

*HYMN 375 Jesus Shall Reign
Jesus shall reign where’er the sun Does its successive journeys run; His kingdom spread from shore to shore, Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

To Him shall endless prayer be made, And endless praises crown His head. His name like sweet perfume shall rise With every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue Dwell on His love with sweetest song, And infant voices shall proclaim Their early blessings on His name.

Let every creature rise and bring His grateful honors to our King; Angels descend with songs again, And earth repeat the loud “Amen!”

READING / PROCLAMATION OF GOD’S WORD:
More About Jesus

Ephesians 1:15-23, PB 1079
15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

*HYMN 560 More About Jesus
More about Jesus would I know, More of His grace to others show, More of His saving fullness see, More of His love who died for me.
REFRAIN:
More, more about Jesus; More, more about Jesus; More of His saving fullness see, More of His love who died for me.

More about Jesus let me learn, More of His holy will discern; Spirit of God, my teacher be, Showing the things of Christ to me.
REFRAIN:
More, more about Jesus; More, more about Jesus; More of His saving fullness see, More of His love who died for me.

More about Jesus in His Word, Holding communion with my Lord; Hearing His voice in every line, Making each faithful saying mine.
REFRAIN:
More, more about Jesus; More, more about Jesus; More of His saving fullness see, More of His love who died for me.

More about Jesus on His throne, Riches in glory all His own; More of His kingdom’s sure increase; More of His coming, Prince of Peace.

More, more about Jesus; More, more about Jesus; More of His saving fullness see, More of His love who died for me.
