A GOSPEL THOUGHT: Jesus said: “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Of course when we read those words, we think about church. And it’s true that Jesus is present when we gather for Mass. But His promise is bigger than that.
Jesus is present around the kitchen table when a family sits down to eat or to work through a problem. He’s present when two friends finally talk after months of not speaking. His presence is felt when somebody sits next to a loved one lying in a hospital bed. He’s there when neighbors join together to help someone who is having a hard time.
Perhaps that’s what Jesus wants us to remember today. His presence isn’t limited to church or to the time we spend at Mass. Jesus goes home with us. He’s there in our conversations, our meals, our problems, and our generous works of love.
Let us remember that even an ordinary conversation or simple act of kindness can become sacred because Jesus promises to be with us there.
