This Lord's Day we considered God's calling to men from 1 Peter 3:7. God calls men to lives of understanding, honor, tenderness, and self-sacrificial love. Yet, every man must admit that he falls short in these areas. Our greatest need, therefore, if not merely to become better men, but to come to Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, who covers all of our weaknesses.

This Lord’s Day, we considered 1 Peter 2:18-25 and what it means to follow Christ in the midst of suffering. Peter calls believers to endure unjust suffering with patience, not because suffering is pleasant, but because Christ Himself suffered for us, leaving us an example to follow. The Christian’s response to suffering is therefore shaped by the cross: we follow the suffering Savior because He first suffered for us. We hope you will take the time to listen and be encouraged by this message.

"The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it" (Psalm 68:11). This afternoon, we had the opportunity to take the gospel to the streets of Providence. We are thankful for the support of Rev. Rob Ventura and Grace Community Baptist Church in this work. It is such a joy to unite around the work of evangelism in our city. Many conversations were had, and lots of tracts were given out. Interestingly, we had to contend with members from a cult that were set up next to us. It was definitely demonic, but the Word of truth prevailed. Please pray with us that "the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified" (2 Thess. 3:1).

Wisdom from our fathers. Robert S. Candlish (1806-1873), a leading minister of the Free Church of Scotland, reminded his generation that the Word of God, faithfully preached, is the instrument God uses in genuine spiritual work and revival. Come and hear that Word proclaimed this Lord's Day.

What does it look like for a Christian to live faithfully in a world of earthly governments and authorities? In 1 Peter 2:13-17, the apostle Peter gives a remarkably practical answer. Christians are called to humbly submit to lawful authority, use their liberty to serve God and others, and show proper respect to all image-bearers.

Our ultimate allegiance belongs to Christ, but that allegiance does not make us rebellious or lawless citizens. Rather, because we belong to Christ, we should be the most conscientious, honorable, and peaceable citizens in the world.

Christianity is more than knowing about Christ. In an age of shallow religion, we need more than an outward profession. We need a faith that reaches the heart and transforms the life. Our forefathers called this "experimental religion." By this, they meant experiencing the truth of the gospel in the soul, knowing Christ by trusting Him, loving Him, walking with Him, and being changed by His grace. It is sound doctrine with a warm heart.

Does your heart long for such a religion? Come hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, and discover the riches of a faith that is meant not merely to be professed, but experienced.

One of the greatest treasures God has given His people is His Word. Yet, how easily we can neglect it, treat it as an ordinary book, or trust in other "seeds" that can never give life. Peter reminds us that we are born again, not by corruptible seed, but by the incorruptible seed of the Word of God. And unlike all the glory of this fading world, God's Word endures forever.

What is love? And what does love actually look like? In a world which has cheapened and distorted the image of true love, even Christians can have a hard time understanding it. In this sermon on 1 Peter 1:22, Reece Gordon unpacks the motivations behind Christian love, warns of the pitfalls to avoid, and explains how love expressed between believers points to the ultimate love of God in Christ Jesus.
