REFLECTION FROM FR. ROBERT:
Second Sunday After Pentecost

Having celebrated the Feast of Pentecost and the Sunday of All Saints, we now enter into a period of the liturgical year in which we will have time to reflect on the actions and the words of Jesus while He fulfilled the will of the Father and ministered to the people of His time. In this first weekend we are there as Jesus walks beside the Sea of Galilee and calls His first disciples. We have to realize that they were not chosen for their great learning or theological expertise. These were simple fishermen who possessed the one quality which made them good disciples. They were open to the words of Jesus and open to the Holy Spirit who would strengthen them to continue the ministry of Jesus after His Ascension.

Might we be open to that same Holy Spirit and by our words and actions draw others to the Lord as those first disciples did. We are the Lord's disciples today!

Epistle: Rom. 2:10-16

REFLECTION FROM FR. ROBERT:
Sunday of All Saints

When most peoples' thoughts turn to the saints, they often think only about people like we find in our reading from the Letter to the Hebrews or the martyrs whose praises are sung in the troparion and kontakion for this weekend. If that is all we think about, it seems to many people that being a saint is impossible.

However, we must remember that there are countless women and men throughout the ages who have become saints in a different manner -- they care for the poor, heal the sick, and call people to peace, etc. When we think of them, we should be confident that we can become saints too!

Epistle: Heb. 11:32-12:2a
Gospel: Mt. 10:32-33, 37-38 & 19:27-30

REFLECTION FROM FR. ROBERT:
Pentecost Sunday

As a community of faith, we celebrate the Lord's gift of the Holy Spirit to the first disciples gathered together in prayer and we remember as well that all of us were gifted with the Spirit at the time of our Baptism and Chrismation.

But have you ever asked the question as to why the gift of the Spirit was necessary for those first disciples and for us? It was necessary to strengthen people. But why? It is so that they and we can go forth and by our words and actions proclaim the goodness of the Lord to all we meet. The Spirit is not only a gift for us, but for sharing with all we meet. Are we using that gift well?

Readings:
Epistle: Acts 2:1-11
Gospel: Jn. 7:37-52 & 8:12

REFLECTION FROM FR. ROBERT:
Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council

Having celebrated the Ascension of the Lord to the right hand of the Father, we now await our celebration of the promised gift of the Holy Spirit on the first disciples and on us. May we take the time during the coming week to prepare ourselves for the celebration of the great feast of Pentecost and to renew the gift of the Spirit within us.

May the coming feast be a time when we rededicate ourselves to becoming better disciples and to sharing our faith with others.

Readings:
Epistle: Acts 20:16-18 & 28-38
Gospel: Jn. 17:1-13

A GREAT TRADITION
Please remember to wear something green for the liturgy next weekend. It is a wonderful way to remember that we have been gifted with the Spirit to become stronger disciples of the Lord.
